Bargain Hunters Mark 2

Recommended Posts

Hereford Models look to have listed some older stuff. Lots of different 0-4-0 railroad tanks and shunters which I don't think are particularly well priced, but there is the following:

Hornby R3016 BR early Class 4MT £103.75

http://herefordmodels.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=340_350_354_351&products_id=12664

Hornby R3053A BR Class 90 First Scotrail £40

http://herefordmodels.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=340_350_354_352&products_id=12680

I think the 4MT is quite good for the money but I'd say the 90 is a bargain if suitable. I know they aren't amazing models but for £40 I don't think many will be complaining.

Today, Lidl are selling a couple of items that may well fit into the modellers toolbox

A cordless soldering iron @ £10

https://www.lidl.co.uk/en/p/diy/parkside-cordless-soldering-iron/p35982

and a cordless minidrill @ £17

https://www.lidl.co.uk/en/p/diy/parkside-cordless-rotary-tool-with-accessories/p35976

The main thing with Lidl stuff is that if you get it home and it doesn't work it's easy to take back for a refund!

(Just keep the receipt...)

download the new Lidl app to your phone, not only do you get discount vouchers, it also keeps An electronic copy of your receipts on there, handy as a few things I’ve had from Lidl (and Aldi) have broken a few months down the line and I’ve not got a clue where the receipt is!

Are there any shops where this doesn't apply?

Maybe you mean it's easier than some internet only mail order thing, but you are still covered by remote selling regs.

Its just that Lidl (and Aldi) are fairly painless when it comes to returning stuff. Sometimes it seems that to have the temerity to want a refund for a faulty/not as described item is an affront to some places.

Hi all,

£19.00 and a bit of tweaking from my local model shop. a nice Airfix 4F

Shhhh, don't tell anyone!  The point of this thread is bargains anyone can buy...  but I think the Airfix 4F is a bargain that anyone can find for around £20 (sometimes less) if you look and choose carefully.  They're a doddle to service, the phospor-bronze pickup is a spare you can buy new (along with many other bits), and you can upgrade them with later Hornby parts if you desire.  Search RMWeb for further detailing stories.  I managed to find one recently that looked pretty good for £16...  and when I received it, I was amazed to find it was effectively BNIB - I don't think it had ever run on rails.

In case I need an excuse, I'm building up Bournville (and Saltley's) shed allocations.  4Fs a plenty.  I promise not to buy any more though.  Honest.

They have NEM pockets so just take the outer kaydee’s off and replace with tension locks?

sold now anyway

Yeah they have gone.

I thought they had a screw in Kadee style fitting rather than NEM TBH having had some in the past hence my thoughts.

In terms of this, it turned up with a paint mark on the glass. I have ended up with an additional 25% off as they didn't have stock to replace it with (as I expected they wouldn't) so I got my 48DS for about £43 delivered.

Oddly enough I was just on their site again just now.

https://clarkrailworks.com/collections/oo-gauge/products/Bachmann-oo-8-x-38-301-ota-timber-carrier-wagon-ews-w-lumber-load

These don't look bad, £135 for 8 OTA timber wagons, some with loads. 2 lots available by the looks of it.

Also, not exactly a bargain in terms of what the new releases can be pre ordered for, but about as cheap as one of these has been for a long time:

https://clarkrailworks.com/collections/oo-gauge/products/Dapol-oo-4d-022-014-class-68-brutus-68019-transpenine-express#5966551580870-2

TPE Class 68 Brutus £160.

Now I am upset, been waiting for military manouvres to come down to a decent price for ages and got it last month for around  £130 from rails,

the kernow link above has it for £99 which is a steal when you consider its only £5 more than the NCB 03 next to it and you get 3 wagons, a controller and an oval of track and siding!
