They look really good. Can I ask what print settings you are using?

Thanks Mike. I'm using 0.02mm slicing with 8 second exposure, 8 second stop time and 2 pixels AA.

The Buffet Car has been primed and I've turned my attention to the Brake Thirds in this rake (thankfully the same diagram).

Early days on this one, but here is the body for the Dia 257 Brake Third.

An ex-GNR Dia. 248D Third is also underway.

Just how short this carriage is really shows when compared to a Dapol 61'6" Third.

I've got some bogie etches and underframe bits to hand and will see about making them up this week.

I don't have much by way of books about LNER carriages to refer to. What date would these have been withdrawn?

Thanks guys, I guess that we are all our own worst critics! :laugh_mini:

The Dia 248D has had the decals applied and the underframe gubbins painted this morning.

I've still got to thread the truss rods and paint them as well as finished off the bogies, but I think it is coming together ok.

I've also test printed the buffet car.

You can see my method of printing a skirt to support the underside of the coach as well as the bulkheads and window skirts that keep everything square while printing. All of these will need to be removed with careful scalpel work and sanding. The eagle eyed among you may have noticed that I forgot to add the door hinges - there's always something!

At 1:148, I'm not that bothered by door hinges (or lack of them).

I'm still working away with the Dia 257 Brake Third, the body of which is now largely complete.

I've enjoyed designing this carriage, not least because I need two for the rake which halves the design time. I was concerned about whether the ends should have panelled over windows, however I found a photo which shows that at least one of the brakes had had the end rebuilt by my modelling period.

Thanks Mike. I had to draw these to true 2mm scale rather than N gauge to get them to fit on the printer. The BR and BTK are a grand total of 117mm long! The ex-GN 61'6 Composite is going to require some lateral thinking to produce. I'm wondering if I can just print the sides and graft them onto a Dapol body (backdating the underframe details of course).

The first side of the Buffet Car got lined today. The underframe also got battery boxes, V hangers and trust rods. I hope to make up the bogies tomorrow.

The BTK now exists as a physical model and hopefully I'll have the underframe tomorrow.

Thanks guys,

Progress has had to take a back burner for the last couple of days. Following the stay at home order, I relocated to my girlfriend's flat so that she wouldn't be spending three weeks on her own. Naturally modelling stuff came with me and, now that everything has been squared away, progress on the Cambridge set has resumed.

It's been a little while since the last update, but things have been slowly moving forward. Here is the state of the Cambridge set at the moment.

The set with an LNER built Third standing in for the 61'6" ex-GN Composite which hasn't been started yet. I've not yet tackled the footboards or dynamos on any of these carriages.

Dia. 257 58'6" Brake Third No. 43057. Yet to be glazed and missing the 'Guard' legend as I've run out of decals.

Dia. 78T 58'6" Buffet Car No. 41552. I've still got to glaze this one as well and fabricate the gas tanks.

Dia. 248D Third. Glazed but awaiting final completion.

Dia. 257  Brake Third. Missing the LNER and Guard lettering and awaiting corridor bellows.

Overall I'm pretty pleased with how these are turning out.

Thank you both. I'm please with them, but it is a bit daunting to think that there are still another hundred to go to fill Hadley Wood's fiddle yard! Good thing I always knew the layout would be a long term project! :laugh_mini:

They look great and will be really something different , and special, for n gauge.
I feel your pain with the number needed. I am 9 coaches into my build plus 4 awaiting bogies. Only another 26 to go. That’s if I only stick to the pre grouping stuff. Anther 16 to build for the LNER era. Does not get close to your hundred.

i wish you gods speed with them.

A belated thanks to Richard and best wishes on your own build - they are looking excellent!

I think that the lockdown has begun to get to me as I've started messing around with a new idea (I really should be building more fiddle yard track!). It's just a bit of fun using CAD at the moment and isn't N gauge.

Anyone want to venture a guess as to what it is?

I'm not great with leaving people in suspense (not that I suspect that anyone was!).

1205281267_OscillatingUnit.jpg.8a9bb43ab9ad6b6550e1a70377658965.jpg

A simple oscillating unit which will end up powering a virtual O gauge loco of some type. I doubt it'll ever get built but I've always wanted to have a go. By setting up various assembly constraints, I have been able to test it - sadly I can't make it into an animation. The crank is very much representational at the moment and only added for play value!

Can anyone give me an idea just how wide the frames are on an O gauge locomotive (fine standards, not S7). Based on the wheel B2B of 29mm, I'm working on the assumption that 26-27mm between the outer faces is OK.

Well around building more track and turnouts and messing around with the cylinder unit, I've also designed and printed an ex-GNR  D2. The body is in Anycubic's grey resin, while the chassis bits are printed in Siraya Blu and is seen below having been roughly removed from its supports.

20200430_222956-1.jpg.5e8a370c81697d4ec8c987347e2be550.jpg

I've added a hand wound spring to the bogie which, as the model presently has no additional weight, is pushing the body up a little. I've got a small clearance issue over the front driving wheel but I feel confident that this will disappear once I've cleaned up all the supported faces properly.
