Neepsend Model Railway Society - NEW Exhibition for 2018

Neepsend Model Railway Society's debut exhibition will be a brand-new show for the 2018 calendar, and we will be hosting a selection of superb model railways built by some of the best modellers from the North of England. In addition, there will be support from well-known model rail traders and demonstrators, plus a café serving a variety of hot/cold food, drinks and snacks.

The exhibition will be held over the weekend of 28th/29th April at the Park Centre, Samson Street, Sheffield, S2 5QT. The exhibition will be open 10-5 on the Saturday, and 10-4.30 on the Sunday. Entry fees will be £5 for adults, £2 for children, and a family ticket (2 adults + 2 children) is available for £12. Each adult ticket comes with a free cup of tea/coffee, redeemable at the in-house café.

The venue is within walking distance from Sheffield Railway Station (albeit up a long flight of stairs!), and as such a free shuttle minibus will be provided from outside the station. The venue is also on the 120 bus route, which has the most frequent service in Sheffield (up to every 5 minutes). Hyde Park tram stop is also a 15 minute walk away from the venue, and is served by trams from Meadowhall Interchange. On-street parking is available in the local area for those visitors with their own transport.

There will also be a cafe selling hot & cold drinks (a free tea/coffee is included with the entry fee), pie & peas, hot/cold sandwiches and cake/snacks.

 

A free shuttle bus will be running both days, picking up at the bus stop opposite Sheffield Railway Station, and dropping off at the venue - please note that this isn’t wheelchair accessible, but there are plenty of service buses running from Sheffield Bus Station that pass the venue (including the 120 route with a 5 minute frequency - stop name nearest the venue is "Duke Street/Coates Street”). Alternatively, the venue is a 15-20 minute walk from Sheffield Railway Station via the tram stop, but involves a long and steep flight of stairs!

Unfortunately Greendale has had to withdraw from this year's show, meaning there will be 12 layouts, 4 traders and 3 demos.

 

5050 - we had hoped that the LMS Patriot Society would be able to attend, but they advised us a few weeks ago that they had prior engagements that weekend.

Just a reminder folks that the show is open 10-5 on Saturday and 10-4.30 Sunday. There will be 12 layouts, 5 traders and 3 demonstrators in attendance, The entry fee of £5 gets you a free cup of tea/coffee, redeemable at the in-house cafe, which will also be serving a selection of cold sandwiches, bacon sarnies, pie/peas, crisps and soft drinks.

 

For those wanting to use the free shuttle bus from Midland station to the show, it will pick up from the bus stop immediately outside the station on the main road (no need use the pelican crossing). For those with very limited mobility, First and Stagecoach run the 120 route to Crystal Peaks/Halfway which also passes the venue using fully disabled access vehicles on an ultra-high frequency (up to approx. every 5 minutes throughout the day) - also picking up outside the station.

Very enjoyable first day, good atmosphere and layouts. Anyone in the area will find it is well worth a visit.

Day 1 of the NMRS's debut show has gone very well - as Dave says, if you haven't been able to visit the show today, make sure you visit tomorrow. What the show lacks in quantity, we have made up in quality. Thanks to all the exhibitors who have given up their weekends to make the show happen, and those who have helped keep the show running.

 

The show is open from 10am to 4.30pm tomorrow, and the cafe will again be serving teas & coffees (one free with each entry fee), pie & peas, sandwiches, crisps, cakes and soft drinks.

 

Just to clarify, the free shuttle bus will be departing from the closest bus stop to Midland station (from the main entrance, follow the large waterfall to the top of the ramp, and walk past the pelican crossing to the bus stop - no need to cross the road).

I went for a look around today and to be honest was not really knowing or expecting what I was to find there. It really is a very good small show!

Infact  I was that impressed I will probably go for a longer look tomorrow - as I recommend any one in the area to do

Nice little show. Had a chance to meet up with people I know and had a chance to have a good look at the layouts. For a first exibition, was a bit of a trail when the power went out.

So, the first show of the Neepsend Model Railway Society is now over - a huge thanks to the exhibitors, traders and demonstrators for their support over the weekend (and patience today during the power cut!), the club members (and family members/friends!) for their hard work in keeping the show running, and finally the general public for their attendance and generous feedback - without you all the show wouldn't have happened. Congratulations also to David & Sue George (70000 Britannia) on winning 'best layout in show'!

 

Today was not without its issues - as referred to above, a 1 and a half hour power cut caused by a failing phase bank in the national grid substation stopped services on all bar 3 layouts, but everyone took the inconvenience with good grace - apologies to those who were disappointed at missing out on a functioning model railway show!

 

After a debrief and further discussions, the society may then look forward to the possibility of holding another show next year - details will be confirmed nearer the time if the 2nd show gets the 'green light'. Early signs look promising though...

Really good effort by the Neepsend team. Looked after everyone throughout. Even the failure of the nearby sub-station didn’t diminish the event, with the public given free drinks and fortunately normal service was resumed after not too long.

One thing, the booklet given out on entrance to the show needs to have more obvious details on the club and how to join etc. After all, the show is a chance to get the club to a wider audiance.
