nigel gill
Greetings to one and all! A heads up on the travel for the sunday morning, As in 2017 the showground is hosting one of the autojumble sales which in 2017 combined with a road traffic accident on the A46/A1 junction caused some lengthy holdups for a while (Newark on a good day normally) However, the showground will do their level best to mitigate the effects at the planning stage. The autojumble organiser is reluctant to change the age-old traffic plan for fear of causing even more confusion. So we like many other events are advising you take instead of the A46 towards Lincoln, at the A46/A1/A17 roundabout, take the first exit down the A17 towards Sleaford then left along Drove Lane. Although slightly longer, it enables traffic to queue along Drove Lane before turning LEFT on to Blue Gate runway. The hold ups are caused by traffic coming off the A46 then turning RIGHT almost immediately on to the runway. It is further exacerbated by people stopping at the entrance to ask questions! And the stacking begins.... Alternativley use the train and arrive by the free heritage bus from both Newark North Gate and Castle stations and save a pound on the entrance fee...... peterl
Nigel, what time does the auto jumble finish on the Sunday? I assume that it will be OK to turn left off the A46, from Lincoln on the Saturday. Peter

Mr King, If you let the club know the details of your vehicle ie. make and model, colour and registration we will endevour to contact the police and have you escorted along the Lincoln by-pass, that is if it is grid-locked. gr.king
I'll enjoy that! As I admitted at Spalding, it's a fair cop. I won't moan about the traffic and the roads this year, nor will I mention the suspension of work on Lincoln's eastern bypass extension following the collapse of a firm whose finances it would seem had been allowed to become completely imaginary, rather than based upon fact...... It's funny how the top management are always very well paid, no matter how big a mess they've created. P. S. Does Lincoln no longer even merit inclusion in the title of this topic? It's annoying enough having the Lincoln show outside of the county, but loss of name is further insult. Edited January 17, 2018 by gr.king

gr.king
High time this had a bump, with less than a week to go now to show time. I've just cleaned wheels, checked pick-ups, made sure screws are tight, checked that they run and that bits aren't falling off forty of Grantham the Streamliner Years' locomotives - so there's at least some chance we'll be able to entertain the visitors. If you want to see the full range of locos in operation come to this Lincoln MRC exhibition at Newark showground - many of tonight's forty are not going to London next month for the Alexandra Palace event...... I'll even wash my LNER T-shirt ready for the show and wear deodorant during the event!

LNERandBR
It's the first away outing for the Boston Club's layout Tytton Hall Yard. We've been putting lots of work in over the last few months to make sure it's ready for it. Really looking forward to the weekend.
gr.king
T-shirt washed and dried. Weekend bag packed including deodorant. Stock boxes, tool box and thermal tea mug all present and correct. I might even have some cast resin parts samples. It must be show time. Use of the Newark venue for last year's Lincoln show suggested that this year's should be excellent - come along and see - even if the location is an "away" one, out of county, for a "home" game. Lincoln club must be copying the Mariners. I hope they have more luck....

atticombe
My first visit to this thoroughly enjoyable show with its excellent mix of quality layouts, traders and demonstrators all at a very reasonable admission charge together with plenty of easy free parking. It is one of the most friendly larger shows I have had the pleasure of attending, it will certainly be added to my diary for next year. Perhaps if I were to make a minor observation regarding the signing for the additional room containing layouts 23,24 etc. I very nearly missed them had I not referred to the layout plan as the directional signage to this additional area was inadequate in my view. peterl
Excellent Show! Seemed to be plenty of visitors. If you are looking for layouts for next year, don't forget that Hull MRS has a number! Peter
cravensdmufan
Attended this exhibition today. Really enjoyed it. Just the right size of show, with a good mix of layout gauges and eras. Good trade support and very informative demonstrations. It's a shame Paul Chetter wasn't in attendance as advertised in advance and in the programme. I had hoped to see him with regard to discussing further sound projects, as I had purchased from him before. I was later informed that he had gone to Glasgow instead - without informing the organisers! Hence his table was empty all day.
RMweb Premium 31A Posted February 25, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 25, 2018 I hadn't been to this one before but very much enjoyed it yesterday. Probably spent most of my time there watching "Grantham" and it was good to catch up with a couple of the names behind it, familiar from this forum, but that's not to say the other layouts weren't good as well. In that regard, an honourable mention for "Thornbury Hill" which seems to have been around in one form or another since the year dot but never ceases to entertain. I didn't spend much, just bought a book from Book Law, but again not a reflection on the trade presence but just that I didn't need much! A nice venue, light and airy and with plenty of circulation space. Nice to ride on a vintage bus from the station, too!
