Peter,

Just tried again and the links work, I have a Ad blocker enabled, which seemes to be the problem, Sorry for any confusion caused.

Gary

Interesting observation if the problem is your Ad Blocker as there are no adverts to be blocked.

Hoping to have the time after the Show to replace the existing with a WordPress based scaleable interface so it is more user-friendly on phones and tablets etc. As with all these tasks finding the time to do it is the problem. For the pages with content relating to the 2019 Show only, anything in the archive will stay as is.

A few words on York.

Trade was a good mix with lots of specialists, Rails look to become a fixture now at shows and their stall is developing with a reasonable set of stock in alll three main gauges available, the stall was popular.

If you like your 2-H units, Monks Bar had them at £164.

Layouts are plentiful and I didn't see one that didn't deserve to be there though I only took photos of the layouts that really resonate with me, I can't get enough of London Road.

Didn't have problems getting to see layouts though the ground floor was busy at 10 which is to be expected as it hadn't long opened.

Purchases limited to a couple of books on Torrington and the North Cornwall Railway.

Absolutely cracking exhibition with a great mix of varied layouts and as ever good mix of trade.

If you get the chance to get along on Sunday or Monday make the effort.

Well done to Malcolm and all the team and of course the band of volunteers.

Due to a misunderstanding the show lost property phone has been left behind this morning. Anything handed in will be announced during the Show. If, after you get home, and find you may have lost something at the Show today please leave a message and we will resolve any issues this evening.

Emails, tweets, posts & PMs here and FB messenger items will be seen during the day.

PS Sadly not a 1st April spoof - I know exactly where it is (on the bedside table) but that is 8 miles away from the Racecourse.

Been today (first time for a few years), enjoyed the show immensely.

Compared to my previous visits, some improvements, some things worse. There was seating available on several floors—much better than the last time I went when all the seating was on the first mezzanine.

By contrast, the bus service was not as well run as previously. There used to be notices indicating where the bus stop was. Not this year. And when the service is only half-hourly an accurate timetable is vital—an "aspiration" really isn't good enough. As it was, I waited opposite the station for about 20 minutes at about 12.30—no sign of a bus. I ended up getting a taxi from the station; I ought to have passed the bus on the way, but there was still no sign. In the circumstances, I phoned for a taxi on the return journey.

Perhaps you need to be more proactive as far as the bus service is concerned — it's the one downside of the current arrangements.

I am now reunited with the phone and there are no missed calls or outstanding messages.  However, we do currently have one item of unclaimed lost property being held overnight (Sunday) - one bunch of keys; possibly a work set? This is going to be significant to someone, to reclaim the bunch contact us with a matching description.

I visited yesterday and as usual found the show well worth the 160 miles each way.  My cousin paid for the tea this time and I'm sure would agree thst £1.40 a cup is by no means unreasonable.  He and his wife were less happy with Sunday lunch but if they feel strongly enough he may say something about it.  It is not my place to tell tales!

There was lots to like in the show.  It struck me that the enclave of demonstrators, each and every one credited in the show guide, is something that could and should have been emulated at Ally Pally.  Admittedly the topography of the Knavesmire Stand lends itself to such an arrangement but with just a little ingeniuity and courtesy could be accomplished at what ought to be one of the hobby's premier shows.

The mix of trade was very much to my liking and I was able to purchase nearly everything that I sought.  What I did not secure was in part down to indecision on my part.  I gained the distinct impression that trade was brisk and a couple of traders clearly felt that it had been worth their while to attend.  There must be an element of "Oh, let's go to York, so-and-so have a stand there".  While there were plenty of dealers in products of the major names, there appeared to be less so-called junk on offer and I shed no tears at the absence of the hedehog hospital.

As usual, some layouts appealed more than others.  The two representatives of P4, London Road and Waterloo Street, performed well when I was watching - as if they would dare do otherwise!  It was the turn of Weslo Steels to represent Dave Tailby this time.  To me it is redolent of West London in my boyhood.  Sadly his 08 had falied but the Hymek drafted in as replacement did an equally good job of tying the yard in knots.  Wheal Louise was an interesting variation on the china clay team with the rail bridge over the river and the farm overbridge nearby.  Eu, the French MPD in 7mm, impressed as much as it did at Wood Green.  Others should learn from it just how much difference a gentle curve makes.  Crumley & Little Wickhill his one of those around which the rest of the show must be arranged.   As usual, it drew the crowds and I was sorry to learn that it is being withdrawn.  I liked Ferme Du Pont, representing narrow gauge on the Western Front, which managed to effectively evoke the barrenness of its surrounding - another case of less is more. Old Elms Road is a familiar tailchaser with a wide avriety of stock and the added attraction of mobile road vehicles, but with one flaw easily remedied.  A sandwich auto train with two trailers either end of the loco needs to be arranged with the driving ends facing away from the engine.  If the driving ends face the engine the rodding cannot be coupled!

As a bonus, I found unleaded petrol on sale two miles from the venue at 112.9p/litre.  I like York!
