EXMOOR RAIL - SATURDAY 4TH AUGUST 2018

Good morning all.

I thought it about time I just posted some basic info about our show for next year.

The date will be Saturday 4th August at the same venue - The Minehead Eye, Mart Road, Minehead, Somerset, TA24 5BJ, which for those who don't know, is just across the car park from the West Somerset Railway's Minehead station, right on the seafront. So you can see and hear the trains from the show!!!

Opening times will be 10.00am to 4.30pm.

Anyway, some bad news and some good news.......

We were hoping to have Merryfield Lane attend next year, but sadly it has had to be withdrawn from the exhibition circuit due to a lack of operators who feel they can exhibit such a large layout. We all get older I'm afraid, so it's perfectly understandable. So I'm now on the lookout for a quality roundy-roundy layout, as they always prove popular. Any ideas anyone that won't cost an arm and two legs??!!

Now the good news: we are very pleased to announce that the new 7mm layout by Gordon & Maggie Gravett - ARUN QUAY - will be appearing at the show, so that will be well worth seeing. Lots more booked already and details will be published in due course - once I've finalised details of our upcoming Train fair in February!!!!

Now that our very successful Train Fair is out of the way - last Saturday - it's onwards and upwards to our next event in August. The show is very nearly full and only a couple of 'i's to dot and 't's to cross now, so the details will be released shortly.

Hi everyone

Just to notify you that railway artist Alan Ward has had to withdraw from Exmoor Rail for medical reasons and we send him all good wishes and hope he gets better soon. In the meanwhile we are hoping to finalise a replacement soon.

This is another of the layouts we have coming to Exmoor Rail on 4th August - "St. Ruth" - a 2mm finescale layout based on Penzance, and without doubt of the best layouts currently on the circuit.

Look forward to seeing some of you there.

Hello all,

I can confirm we now have a replacement trader for Alan Ward who unfortunately had to withdraw due to health reasons, and this will be The Frome Model Centre , who will be selling a wide range of kits, paints, diecast, building materials and weathering products etc.

Hi everyone

I wanted to add the last of the stands booked to appear at EXMOOR RAIL in Minehead on Saturday 4th August:

We will have two demonstration stands as follows:

THE WEATHERMEN - Barry & Paul will be demonstrating weathering using a variety of different techniques

DAVID WINTER - David will be showing construction techniques in 4mm scale, which should include wagon & loco building and there is also a building under construction which will find a home on David's 4mm layout "Exmouth".If anyone would like to try their hand at soldering, then please just ask!

In addition there will be two society stands:

The EM Gauge Society will be in attendance, also

The Great Western Society will be there promoting their latest projects, together with the latest news.

Best to all

Good morning all.

Just one alteration to our layout list to announce. Unfortunately, "Tudwick Lane Siding" will not be appearing now. If I told you the reason why, you wouldn't believe me, would they Dave???!!! It's enough to say that it comes under the group heading of "My dog ate my homework....!!!!" If you bribe him with either cakes or money he may even tell you........

But by special appointment, Dave is showing another from his collection - "CANONS LANE SCRAPYARD". which is in 4mm scale. this is a layout that Dave built to sit on an ironing board!!! He obviously doesn't like to be too far away from his domestic chores......  This layout is an excellent illustration of how a layout could fit in to the smallest home, utilising readily available kits, that are within the scope of most people. A really inspirational offering that will show what can be achieved. Hope to see some of you there!!

Now back from setting up, with some of the layouts and trade stands having arrived this afternoon. It's now beginning to look like an exhibition!!

The remainder will be there (hopefully!) in good time for door opening at 10.00am tomorrow. Why not arrive by train? Our venue is adjacent to Minehead station, so you can see and hear the trains from there. If the wind is in the right direction, you can smell them too!!!
