DavidMcKenzie
Will it be 90023 by any chance? Looks great by the way ... There might be another mistake on 90023 that I have copied by accident , but I have gone for 90033. The railfrieght dimonds and the railfrieght wording looks inverted on 90033 compared to any other that I have seen photos of. 90033 in this link https://www.flickr.com/photos/theoriginalzippy/37819862946/in/photolist-23MRr5g-99CuVr-28B4AcX-SShEqZ-GCdWFB-24yr8iw-KKaqse-vpyoba-vpynot-fiKsFM-VLVjef-9whzr7-nJJpSY-ZC1FCw-bmHhgK-p4GQ4z-BXtT87-ndcKk9-oMtqBq-6ihzz9-FjkAR8-9cdd7H-reHF1f-KBk8SK-K7T3gw-9cdnTD and a pair of 'normal' 90 railfrieght in this link https://www.flickr.com/photos/neil_harvey_railway_photos/6287398582/in/photolist-mGqVPt-azAyxQ-azAvhw-Xw84wF-vpyoba-mWewgW-8p9HQo-rthkt2-vpynot Edited November 9, 2018 by DavidMcKenzie
DavidMcKenzie
a bit more progress on 90033, still needing a screen and a few small final details.
DavidMcKenzie
And 90033 sitting on the layout. No big progress on the layout, but some small details like the AWS ramps are in, the track and gravel weathering for this section is finished and a few extra cables added to the background wall (which hardly notice, especially for the amount of time they took ).
DavidMcKenzie
And now the loco is close to finished I've started work on something for it to pull. All the best Dave
87023Velocity
Hi Dave, Nice work on the 90, its a livery on my to do list once 90129 in DB is finished - need to start it though first! Those Tanktainers (C Rail?) look very smart, need to order some for my Megafret wagons. Cheers Simon
DavidMcKenzie
Thanks Simon, I think we are doing roughly the same 90s, just in reverse order. I still need to get 90028 finished this winter. I am looking forward to seeing your effort at 90129, your models are always brilliant. The tankers are the C-rail kits. I am impressed so far with the basic look, but the ladders and the walkway grill on the top are not brilliant, the plastic is far too course. Ideally something in brass would probably be better, but I might also do my best to hide the walk way detail with painting and weathering and place the containers so the ladders are never seen. DavidMcKenzie
The concrete foundations for the ohle need to go in before final ballasting and a bit of static grass can go down. But to get them in the right place this meant setting up the gantries. With the help of a little jig to get things all lined up whilst accounting for the cant in the track and a lot of bluetac everything is roughly lined up. With all the ovhl in place it's slowly starting to look more like the wcml. I think I'll have a crack at modelling the wires at a later date. I can understand why a lot of people don't. Especially on exhibition layouts. But even if it doesn't work and I take it all off again. my other big interest away from the wcml is swiss railways and layouts where modelling the wires is far more common place (although often done with far too thick wire). 87023Velocity
Hi David, Very nice, it certainly does look WCML, the jig for OHLE is a great idea. Cheers Simon
DavidMcKenzie
90033 is now finished. I thought I'd post a few pictures of it that also show progress on the layout. All the best Dave
RBE
The international RfD livery should have a blue roof I believe. Here was my 4mm 86 from outon road. Looks good otherwise.
RBE
Actually I just looked 90033 up and it seems that it had a roof that matched the top grey colour. I stand corrected. Edit, actually the more I look at this the more I think that it is actually blue, just dirty blue, you can seebits blue at the edge of the cab and down the bodyside above the grey! Although this picture is blue! Edited November 25, 2018 by RBE
87023Velocity
Looking very nice David, that shot of the 87 passing the Freightliner looks really good. Cheers Simon

It is also metalic blue mixed with black that got sprayed on as the first coat on the model. I just got carried away on weathering the roof and there is very little of the blue left showing. It's maybe slightly better in real life than the photos show, but you're right I have over done it a bit with the black wash and powder mix. On the model you can see how much has been weathered on the roof because the Orange stripe has also totally disappeared at the front. Luckily the 90s did tend to have pretty dirty roofs so I am going to leave it as it is. Worst case I will just tell everyone I am a beginner and keep smiling and carry on
RBE
Ah fair enough. The 90s did get very dirty on their roofs, especially the railfreight ones.
DavidMcKenzie
After an evening of some less interesting thing's like painting (yet another ) coat of white onto the backscene and filling in little bits of ballast on sections I had missed, I got the urge to do something more directly railway related. The little rake of engineers wagons got weathered. They will probably float around behind a dirty class 31 eventually. I also started trying to coble together some half realstic loads from scrap bits. They are not perfect yet and I don't know that the last wagon carrying tubes is really fitting with the rest of the wagons loads, I was heading towards thinking the others are all scrap bits of rubbish coming back from a job. It's been interesting seeing what is possible from bits that would otherwise have ended in the bin. If anyone has any more typical load idea's for a short engineers train I would be very interested. Freight Connection
Thanks for the post Dave, Re the scrap bits in a short engineers train, if you get the chance take a look at Mudmagnets Workbench on the forum. Page 1 has a really nice pic of some bits and ballast piled into an OCA. The drum and pallets obviously available in N as well. Saw it sometime ago and always thought i'd like something along those lines. Regards - Steve

DavidMcKenzie
Looking good fella. Really do like the grubby dutch 47 Thanks porkie, I've been really happy with both the dutch locos I've had a crack at so far. Just a dirty 31 to do now. I think the dutch livery was a real good one, a bit like intercity. I find it hard to explain exactly why, but for me it works. DavidMcKenzie
Just a quick update to show progress is slowly being made. Of course nothing is finished yet and the to do list keeps growing rather than shrinking , but that's all part of the fun isn't it. A base layer of green is down over a large part of the country side section of the layout. It should give a basis for further landscaping, more trees and then detailing. DavidMcKenzie
I've spent an evening playing with static grass and having a go at layering. Of course plenty to do still and it's by no means finished. I've found it amazing stuff to use and as a complete beginner I'm pretty impressed with how easy it is to pick up. DavidMcKenzie
A small update on progress. Some further trees have been added. But not even half way along the backboard yet so plenty still to do there. The OHLE gantrys are all down at the moment (I kept knocking them) and every time I take them down the WCML feel totally disappears. Away from the layout this 47 had a weathering session. It's a lovely model. The difference is impressive when it's standing it next to an older farish 47. The first stage of a chalky white wash to give a slightly sun weathered effect always makes me a bit nervous. I always feel like I've just ruined a beautiful new model. It's worth doing in the end though 10
