Installing PyCAM in Linux Mint for Dummies!

Recommended Posts

Has anyone installed PyCAM in Linux, and could give me a complete idiots step by step guide? It's one of those annoying Linux programs that doesn't have an installer, and takes me into areas of Linux that still totally baffle me. I can't find anything online that's in the least bit helpful. I'm using Mint 18.1.

If not, is there another Linux program that will create G-code for CNC 2.5D milling from STL files, and some format I can output from Inkscape, like DXF?

Just saw this now.

I downloaded the zip file from here

I looked at the installation note here

and used Synaptic Package manager to install any of the Requirements that I did not already have

Then I extracted the zip file which creates a folder called pycam-0.6.2

In that folder I found a folder called scripts and in that folder I double-clicked the file called pycam
