The nature of the layout is such that there is no continuous run anywhere - it's a whole series of interlinked terminus-station-fiddle yard operations. It would be possible to put in a link from Upperby to 'grand junction' which would give a continuous run round the WCML, which might be useful for testing purposes but not really a route where you could leave a train running unattended due to the gradient changes. I'll be quite happy building things in between operating sessions... 17 hours ago, Gibbo675 said: Only for when through coaches to Penzance are spoken of ! lofty.ian
On the subject of Yorkshire teabags. At the beginning of lockdown, in the midst of panic buying, Morrisons in Skipton had an empty shelf where Yorkshire teabags should have been. Next to the space was a large stack of 'another' brand which was on special offer! This disproves the story that Yorkshire people always choose the cheapest option. Quality does count sometimes. 3 2 1 1

At least it's a useful use for tenders designed to go behind Swindon built locos. Jamie 1
Popular Post LNER4479
Happiness is ... a set of points to hack into: Here laid out. I could assemble them as is ... but you know me. As this is a 'on view' section of track, then 45mm track centres it is. Well stuck in to the work - you should be able to see the usual chopping up. And now assembled and ready for the spray can. I've gone for the usual 45mm spacing for the pairs of tracks. But, looking at photos, the more usual 10ft middle spacing was eschewed at Bog Junction (low speed only location, I guess), so I've stuck with the 50mm spacing there - in fact, a little bit of trimming has taken place as, unaltered, the spacing is more like 52mm. MEANWHILE ... Back at Central, I forced myself to knuckle down and tick off a few tasks arising. What's going on here is that the trackwork alterations have introduced a single slip (top right) where there was previously only a plain point. So the Y-point (left hand side) now needs to work with the right hand end of said slip as a crossover. The motor is the existing one on the Y-point so what I'm doing here is preparing the linkage for the one motor to work both points - from underneath. Now installed, here is the view from underneath - and above - with the crossover 'normal'. Hopefully you can see how the linkage works? (motor to the left - these are effectively mirror images) Also that other crossovers are similarly linked - most of the crossovers on Grantham work this way as well. And the equivalent set of pictures in the 'reverse' position. If you feel so moved to compare the underneath pictures then you should be able to detect difference in the position of the linkage - the 'crank' for the single slip end is all one piece of wire, with the underneath part at 90degrees to the top. More soon ... Edited October 19, 2020 by LNER4479 16 2
RMweb Premium Michael Edge Posted October 20, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 20, 2020 Yes, we've got three 6ft spacings on our model of Bog Junction as well - there aren't any signals between the tracks on this bit. 4
