If you didn't receive such compliance training from such an early age there is no way you would ever put up with the nonsense that is known as employment ! Just remember, if hard work was good for you the rich and greedy would have kept it to themselfs. I do so hope that the above helps your current state of mind. Gibbo. jukebox
Well since I last looked in on this thread, I had a good night's sleep, and have washed my car when I got up at 6am here. So I feel a little less guilty about my lack of modelling progress compared to your blink-of-an-eye speed! Looking great. Scott 1
RMweb Gold Barry Ten Posted December 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 27, 2020 Good work on those bogies, I always feel that I spend a disproportionate amount of time opening up the holes in the back of the axlebox castings. 1

Dr Gerbil-Fritters
Just gone 1am here... can't sleep because Storm Bella is roaring across the rooftops. My old roof sheds tiles randomly all year, gawd knows what will be left in the morning. 1
Popular Post LNER4479
Time to draw stumps. Conclusion? Not quite possible to build a coach in a day but came close. Still to do: roof detail, end handrails etc, door handles and undergubbins. Will aim to finish these off over next few days. Thanks for your interest today. 24 6 15

Just doing the calcs at the moment but it's ... er ... more than just one or two! Apologies for radio silence over the last 24 hours or so. I had to go and lie down in a darkened room after that more-or-less continuous 16 hour session on Boxing Day. There's always a bit of come back from an effort like that. Will attempt to post something later on. There's one or two aspects of the build that may be of interest. 3

RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted December 28, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 28, 2020 16 hrs is pretty good matey. In almost one go is tough though. Sadly that 16 would be spread over at least 4 days with me if it was hinges and all......all door Gresleys were a PITA. However I wasn't building to a planned schedule as you are so well disciplined to achieve. P

Popular Post LNER4479
OK. So, still not quite fully recovered, here nonetheless a couple of coach snaps: Here's the body inverted. One thing I don't like are big long lengths of sides unsupported. Nothing worse than a floppy body (even though there are the fold up tabs on the chassis floor to stop it bowing inwards). So I prepared some simple strips of scratch etch that were the same width as the ends and simply soldered them in situ with the body and chassis attached, but prior to roof fixing. Body now firm! So far as the roof goes, I have an inherent mistrust of glue so I folded up more scrap etch and soldered them to the ends as you can see here, then drilled down from the roof into said etch to accept a 12BA Bolt. But won't the bolt head show, I hear you ask? (anyone?) ... Aha! Bolt hole was cunningly marked and drilled in the position of the water filler, the head of the 12BA bolt being the ideal size. I then opened out the slot in the top to accept a piece of 0.5mm brass wire, folded up to shape, a quick zap with the iron and there we have it. (I have also run some superglue into the gap where the sides and roof meet - from the inside with the body upside-down - and left it overnight) Whilst we're on the subject of coaches, been working away at this on and off over the last few weeks. With internal partitions cut to shape and fixed and then ends affixed with nothing more sophisticated than UHU (no choice but to use glue on this kit!), it too is a nice solid body structure. There's some weight in those chunky ends. And here we are, of about 30 minutes ago. Runs nicely. Together with the Stanier RF wot I built some 20 years ago, it's a start on trying to build up some more esoteric vehicles to go with what is available RTR. 23

I want to know when Barrys one to nine are going to start posting. I've been three "Barrys" already. When I signed onto Rmweb for the first time I noticed that everyone seemed to have secret codenames, so I chose Barry Boy as my first login (cunningly due to the fact that I'm from, er, Barry.) Later there was a software glitch thing where a number of members had to resubscribe, so i came back in as Barry Yob (a fiendishly clever anagram of my earlier name) and then when I had to re-subscribe a second time I kept up the Barry theme by going for Barry Ten, after "the Barry Ten" locomotives left over from Woodham's yard. All immensely tedious now and totally pointless as no one remembers the actual Barry Ten. Al (with apologies for the digression from the fine coachbuilding). 4 2
