This is one of my 0 gauge projects, it's obviously a work in progress,

it's a fictional railcar, based on the Triang Big Big mk2 coaches,

and using a Lima power bogie. It still needs the headcode boxes,

and ultimately an interior.

The reason for surplus Big Big coaches was because they were left over from

creating a rake of layout coaches for the club, BSO-SO-SO-SO-RKB-FK-BFK.

I started using the leftover coaches to make a 2/3 car DMU (more about that

later), then got sidetracked into the railcar.

I then got even more sidetracked, by thinking of a use for the discarded bits.1612698192004.jpg.328db00d2b17dcaa4660f96d9b53bf2a.jpg

Hi Jeff,

That looks like an early version of the class 153. Will the head code boxes be class 123, 124 DMU or 317 EMU style ?

Gibbo.

Gibbo,

Probably closer to a 303 or 310/311/312 style for the railcar.

And similar style box for the railbus.

On all three fronts (DMU/Railcar/Railbus) I'm going for different

window styles/numbers, to disguise their origins, the DMU will

keep it's corridor connection door,1612702067034.jpg.c9b9f6c3b8608249d2a5ba2939ebeebe.jpg

The other thing you get left with from all the cutting and shutting is,

(due to quite a few windows getting broken) lots of roof sections, and

lower body sections.

So, what can you make with those, well, throw in a couple of spare Kirk,

Gresley bogies and.....1612728561215.jpg.e1fe5c143073ef4b662335eb6fbb577a.jpg

I've been through my photos, unfortunately I didn't take

as many as I thought, still here are the railcar ones-

new end grafted on, and 1 window filled in to create guards/luggage area,

which conveniently hides the motor bogie.1612747077154.jpg.ce69dc04601867ef86d276d6cd79d9b9.jpg

in primer, with 3D printed doors (fellow club member)1612747362160.jpg.4e7296b441da37764563bd900932a22d.jpg

the power train, Lima power bogie, and matching non-powered bogie,

it doesn't need a lot of power, maybe just the odd tail van.

Next up is the railbus, again not masses of photos, but a few more showing how it was assembled-1612747129409.jpg.953e69206a35086fce615b1a5a151aa4.jpg

always interesting to stick them together, you can see the aluminium channel I used

Last up, for the moment, the diesel brake tender-IMG_20200413_112919.jpg.b26e671d3d153b2d492e0d4e418f05ce.jpg

shape getting there, almost ready for primerIMG_20200415_180817.jpg.c2eb5e5479869ed89efa01faa142f5da.jpg

nearly ready for handrails and then painting.

  • 3 weeks later...

As I said earlier, I had decided to create a DMU 2 car, but with an extra coach, so

it could also run as a 3 car unit (depending on the layout, etc), I might even do

another one, but with a pantograph, so it could also masquerade as an EMU!

Firstly the decision was what style to use for the driving end of the DMU, so here

are the 3 options I have:-

1614296640197.jpg.ac75a3afdf754f4d86fed20af914198f.jpg

or

1614296698142.jpg.6e50fd7abf8cf43f38e655b09a35f4f4.jpg

or even

1614296711512.jpg.936acfa361491385c95ecb766de15465.jpg

Then while I was thinking about it, I made the 'extra' coach,

1614296609940.jpg.1065cb46ef62f97516cde3224252a30f.jpg

I decided that it would look better, and more modern, by removing the opening part of the

windows, also I removed the moulding lines that were used to separate the blue and grey.

I've just got around to taking a picture of the extended chassis/underfloor,

that is under the intermediate coach, but is the same as all of my coaches.

I don't cut straight across, as that then is a weak point, instead I cut down

the centre line, and then across to the edge at each end, it's much easier

to line up, and it's sort of adjustable to suit the length of each coach.

I've made a bit of progress on my railbus,

starting with a basic interior,

1614551830455.jpg.28906831a6f4ac4eea90f00c3a94100e.jpg

and the 2 wires lead to my first attempt at lighting

1614551851182.jpg.b6c6019012fbdad41154b7b9c49d81e6.jpg

which I have since toned down a bit!

Also started on the driving cab detail

1614551809814.jpg.5cd9a31a14a98625d6bc1568f3c2e6b2.jpg

Just got to sort out the headcode boxes next.
