The notorious (locally) railway bridge at Royston (nr Barnsley) claimed another victim this afternoon as a Stagecoach double decker (15414, in the old Yorkshire Traction colours and it's old fleetnumber 804) is now an open topper, ( I've been sent pictures, not sure who took them though hence why not posted).

I would hope that costs are recovered by NR as prosecutions seem to be few and far  i note that Tesco apologised for the GWR  incident.They should put their hands in their pockets and pay for delays and rebuild costs but probably wont be asked.

I just dis a quick web search to see if there are ant figures showing the number of bridge strikes for the year.

Yes, those figures are all for complete years, So bashes have fallen by 20% in three years. But how much of that is down to improved defensive structures, how much to improved driver awareness, and how much to decreased traffic during the pandemic?

In which case assuming it is the side the driver approached from then they are potentially not at fault. If a bridge is not marked then clearance is assumed to be 16ft 6in or greater

That's the level of news reporting in this part of the country;

anything to fill space.

TBH I don't normally bother with the video clips.

They take ages to load, then you have to get through

the adverts before you get to the bit yo u want to watch

Thankfully the only damage to the bridge would have been some dirt knocked off underneath!

 

Unfortunately no doubt the line would have to still be shut/restricted until cleared.

They do!

 

However just as your motor vehicle insurance company does not publish the full details of everybodys claim in public - the same is true of commercial vehicle insurers.

 

The only time it becomes a public matter is if the courts have to get involved (i.e. the Insurance company is refusing to pay and legal action has to be entered into. However it has been made ABUNDANTLY CLEAR the Courts several times over that the process is fair and attempts to question the payment of the NR bill (which includes compensation it has to pay TOCs for infrastructure problems plus the direct repair & inspection costs of its own staff / contractors) by motor vehicle insurers will be kicked out!

 

In the Plymouth case, the lorry was NOT OWNED OR OPERATED BY TESCO and likewise the driver was not a Tesco employee! Like most supermarkets its lorry operations are a contracted out job and thus what company logo / advertising is painted on the side of a means nothing in terms of financial liability.
