That was my next plan & it works. However, the bosses hair dryer has a temperature cut out, so as soon as a door is warm enough to bend it stops working until its cooled down! Will have another update tomorrow.

I had one, it got lent to someone, it didn't come back!

So I lied, one more minor update tonight. I managed to get the hairdryer working reasonably well and have done a wagon and a half's worth of panels. This is where we are with the first wagon:

Having a day off to my self using up a days leave today, so this morning I have cracked on with the Turbot interlude! Progress on all wagons but two pretty much done. I'll probably re-visit these with powders and maybe some Gauche rust patches but happy with these:

They have come out well, definitely needs some rust on them especially on where the sides have been bent outwards.

Thanks Jim. For now I am calling them done. They will get dropped off at Cam's for a Xmas engineering possession (some airbrush work!!!) and then come back to me in the New Year when I might throw some powders at them. All seven with different numbers now too.

These look the dogs wotsits. I bet your happy with them.

Now you've done the main work on them I suppose SWMBO no longer needs a heat gun !!! :sarcastichand:

Jim

Yes, very pleased! They were meant to be a quick job and have been, I only started stripping them down Saturday morning.  Looking forward to seeing them on the layout, but as the current restrictions mean I can't spend any time with it that will have to wait. There'll be a socially distanced drop off for a bit of further work, I might even teach myself to use my airbrush next year.  As for the heat gun, who knows where it ended up, but SWMBO has here hair dryer back.................. for now! I have already been asked to do one for someone else.

Got to get back to building a couple of kits this weekend.

Used to take 25 of these into Godstone tip loaded with spoil. The digger unloading them used to regularly derail them they were so rough! The digger would pick them up by clamping onto a dropside door and rerail. No wonder they were battered!

Having seen @woodyfox progress on his latest DMU build has prompted me to go back to my 101. It stalled some time ago and many other things have been prioritised but I really want to get this one done. SO a bit more research and going back over various threads I have started the interiors. Seats bent up, glued and painted:

101E.jpg.cedd02688398bc2be922eb206e5ca5b5.jpg

Partitions & false floors measured and cut. I need to work out how best to do the bulk head into the Guards compartment.

101F.jpg.4c9c91feb42d51da328d90b035d24469.jpg

Corridor connections, exhaust stacks and Coolant fillers added, the body's are now just about ready for a wash and primer. I just need to add another spacer between the doors in the vestibules. I have glued a nut to them ready to fix the body's to the chassis so once this is dry I will fit them. Wash & Primer may well be a Christmas treat!

I'm also working on another wagon, but that will appear when done as its for the MIOG website again. Really hope to have it done over the Christmas break even if its just the build.

Cheers Ian, it was your inspirational video's that prompted me to have a go. Cam's now got them for a bit of airbrushing. Will be nice to see them on our layout, hopefully we can crack on sometime in the New Year. For now its stock and the odd building.

After a good wash and scrub first thing (only lost two roof vents!), then a good walk while they dried. The bodies have had a first coat of primer. Second coat now drying in the then they will get inspected. Not looking too bad for a first pass.

101H.jpg.bffee98d03bdc695a6a0818f6dab40f7.jpg

Also been working on the underframes. I really need to find a decent picture of the Fuel tanks or the underframe of one someone has done as I think they need doubling up. The other issue I have is I can't suss how the cab desk should look, which way round should the support be?

Looking really good Al. The desk supports go highest side to the window. If i remember the fuel tanks sit between the longitudinal bracing struts just in from the bogies to allow enough swing. They may interfere with any securing points for the body fixing. I just drilled through mine. You have one fuel filler pipe and one gauge per side too if memory serves...

Cheers

Not a lot of progress today, been out for a big walk. I couldn't resist putting the bogies, chassis & bodies together last night to get an impression as to how its coming on:

I am actually quite pleased with how its looking. A few bits to tidy up which I have done today and its now getting another coat of primer. I think I have sussed the fuel tanks and have prepped some of the engine bits and multi jumpers so will progress again tomorrow.

Though I have not posted for a couple of days there has been some progress. Bodies are ostensibly complete, a few more bits to add but that will be after painting now. Underframes are continuing, this morning has involved bending up the exhaust runs but all that now remains is to fit the gear box and final drive. Other than that the last bits to do on the chassis is the sole bar foot steps, vac pipes, jumpers and the bottom part of the exhaust stacks, yesterday I had all four, now I can only find one so may have to bend some new ones.

Progress has also turned to the interiors with the centre section of both saloons now ready to be populated.

Thanks Jim, I am rather please with them, just need to do the other 4 compartments now. I need to fit the door furniture to the sliding doors and work out how to do the bulkhead between the passenger saloon and the Guards compartment and the bulkhead at the back of the DMCL, but it is coming together, seats are all ready to go in.

That dreadful orange is one of those everyday things you forget about but then instantly recognise!

Its probably not quite the right shade, but I had a tin of Humbrol 18 in stock (from when I was a kid building F1 kits!), what you can 't really tell from the pictures is the other end is a pale 'lime green', again an old tin of Humbrol 90.  There were certainly some garish interiors.

Well, thats 2020 done. A pretty crap year all in all but a number of achievements on my WB. Hopefully I can be more productive this year. Certainly some more interesting things to come. Even though there is still a lot of work in progress items I am already looking at the next challenge.

Not a massive amount of progress this week as I am now back at work. However, the chassis are now painted black with some detail painted in and some weathering started. They won't get fully weathered until everything is together, but engine/heater/exhausts have all had a little dry brushing with various shades of browns and a charcoal.

101R.jpg.c2e5250d8cbde41fda767b136f8ad9f6.jpg

Further progress on the interior sections which are nearly done. I am missing the bulkhead that goes into the brake compartment but there is one on the way and I need to finish the cab interior but these bits are easily added later. I have got some cheap passengers to add but I'll prime them and give them a bit of a better paint job first. I am rather please with how these have turned out, pretty much how I remember them.

Nice job Al. All you need now is to recreate the rattling vibrations of the original tin cans...

Well its got a sound chip ready to go into the DMBS, I thought my prototype was a DTCL, but it is a declassified DMCL so I'll just have to assume its only running on on car! I have got to work out how to wire it all up at some point, LED's are not my strong point, may consider jumpers through the corridor connections to an additional speaker but we'll see.

Not been much progress here for a while. There are a number of wagons on going wo of which I desperately need to finish. Strange how you get stuff so close to the finish line but can't quite find the motivation to pull it all together! On minor item that the last bits needed arrive last week was one on Jason Lee-Hannant's wheel skates. These have been modified with Steel axles, Brass Bearings and N gauge wheels. Its just about there but will need a bit of modification as getting the back to backs right on all three axles with the bearings in place needs the cradle opening out a little. They are not perfect but this was the test bed! I have got a couple more to do but will need to get some bearings as i have used them on both the inside and outside frames (8 per wheel skate) but I will need to place a wheel order fairly soo so will get some extra bearings.
