Not been much progress here for a while. There are a number of wagons on going wo of which I desperately need to finish. Strange how you get stuff so close to the finish line but can't quite find the motivation to pull it all together! On minor item that the last bits needed arrive last week was one on Jason Lee-Hannant's wheel skates. These have been modified with Steel axles, Brass Bearings and N gauge wheels. Its just about there but will need a bit of modification as getting the back to backs right on all three axles with the bearings in place needs the cradle opening out a little. They are not perfect but this was the test bed! I have got a couple more to do but will need to get some bearings as i have used them on both the inside and outside frames (8 per wheel skate) but I will need to place a wheel order fairly soo so will get some extra bearings.

I've seen these on bbay and put them in my basket, presumably the same ones. I wondered if they'd be usable. What size wheels did you use?

I would guess so, I had see Lee has put them on ebay now. he's been putting all sorts on the MIOG Facebook page. 6mm wheels robbed off an old N gauge wagon.  A piece of 1.5mm steel rod, I cut to 45mm length but this is too long, will be about 42mm once I have trimmed them up.

This last week or so I have found a little motivation. I think as I am doing a couple of things on the side that are items I particularly want rather than building to write up for reviews. A couple of evenings work and a couple of hours this morning have helped move a few bits on including making a start on these two items.

First up a GJH plant VGA, I have been unsure about this kit for a while, ideally want a few VGA@s but wasn't totally convinced about the shape. Well I needed some buffers off Graham so figured I would give it a go. Its actually not too bad and goes together quite nicely. Once I had got it together I noted the sides we're a little more bowed than I thought so it has been in a bowl of hot water this morning and pulled the sides in a bit. This pic was taken before this mornings procedure. Next up will be to fill and file some of the gaps and fit handrails, then another wash before paint. Should have this done in the next couple of weeks all being well.

Next up something I have been eyeing up for some time. Peter Clark does some very nice DMU kits and the 156 has been on the cards for some time but has been on the back burner waiting a few parts. A few weeks back I dropped Pete an email to see what the current situation was. He'd got most of the parts only missing a couple of bits. So as I am still working from home (I can't remember the last time I filled the my car with fuel) I decided to treat myself to another DMU. Once painted the 101 won't take much to finish off now. So here is the start of the 156, this may take a while! The cab in the second picture is only slotted in as I am sure there are some more parts to solder in before fixing the resin in place.

Not a lot of progress on the 7mm stuff this week, I have been working on some HO buts though. A nice surprise today were these picture's Cam sent me. He's got the first coat of orange on the 101 so I suppose I had best get the chassis and lighting circuits sorted. No idea what I am doing there though!

Cam's got some more orange on the 101 this afternoon:

He's also given my Turbots a dusting with his airbrush just to tie everything together. I was dead pleased with these last year when I did them but this looks to have just finished them off. We just need to finish building a layout to run them on.

Well this last week paint has been going on the VGA. Not my best build by a long way but it should look the part at s distance. Given the weather is going to be pretty crap today I'll hopefully make some more progress on things later on.

As I managed to get a coat of gloss on the VGA last night, while the boss is still in the land of Slumber I've sat in the kitchen this morning and added the transfers to the VGA. Satin Varnish and a couple of paint touch ups and it should be ready for traffic.

This doesn't really fit here or my layout thread, but now that the first wall is up for the beds in the garden I couldn't resist a play in between lugging breeze blocks this morning.

Managed to get to the bottom of the garden just as the MOD train was going through!

And a couple of shots of the (just about) finished VGA in the sun, excuse my dodgy painting;

I reckon there is about another 10 days structural work to go then I can think about track laying. Hopefully by late spring/early summer we'll have trains up and running so yes, I am sure there will be plenty of pictures. I will have to retrieve the rest of the completed loco fleet as all I have here are the 26 and WIP loco's.

Looking very good, I bet you can't wait to get the track in and some trains running.....

Its all getting rather exciting, the curve at the other end has gone in today so think structurally we will be done for the end of the week, Cam & I then need to lay and wire the track in.  Its only a simple loop to allow trains to run through the garden. Won't all get planted this year but we're hoping to get the pond area done and the corners filled and planted. We're going to need some more soil to fill the middle.

Still nothing progressing on the WB at the moment but we are heading outside! I had hoped we would have at least one set of curved blocks in this week but not quite there, however with a nice sunny morning Cam & I have laid most of the rear wall, hampered only by a lack of plastic fishplates! There will be an order going in later for some bits so we should be able to progress weather permitting later in the week.

Its progress and we have a plan. More plastic fishplates ordered, point work for the other end wired up ready to drop in & all being well the blocks will be cemented in on Tuesday.

Cheers George, battering was done following Ian's Youtube Vids and then Cam had them for a final dusting with the airbrush.

Hi,

Really impressed with the VGA would love one on my layout.

Are the still available, might be stretching my kit building ability but have to ask is it ok for a relative novice to have a bash at?

Regards

Julian.

Hi Julian. Its a GJH Plant kit, the body is basically resin, two sides, two ends and a roof. There is a bit of warping on them and quite a bit of filing but other than that its not too bad. The suspension is white metal and needs some buts cutting off with a razor saw and tidying up with a file. But that is about it, it doesn't come with the Railfreight/Speedlink boards but they are easily cut out of plasticard.  its far from my best work but it is certainly passable.  I have photographed all the stages for a future write up for the MIOG website which I should really crack on with. If you want any more info, or if you go for one and need some assistance just shout.

Starting to think I maybe should do a separate thread for the garden, but here will do for now. A break in the weather today has meant Cam and I have got the outside of one of the curves in, we couldn't resist a test run to make sure it wasn't too tight so out came the Corpach Paper trip!!

Thanks for that and the kind offer, found it on Invertrain’s site. Being relatively new and inexperienced to kit building is this something a beginner could tackle?

Cheers

Julian.
