Peter, the full write up for that one is here: http://www.modernimageogauge.co.uk/Heljan-air-class-26.html

As you say the JLTRT/MM1 tanks are no longer available, I have had numerous discussions with Laurie over doing a run that I was prepared to bank roll, but the cost of the lost brass parts were astronomical, the kits were going to come out over £50 so it just wasn't viable. I unfortunately don't have another set for this one but I have picked up a couple of Steve Beatties tanks. They're just a resin set of tanks and the frame work so will need to have all the pipework added but should be able to create something. They do need a bit of tidying up though. Steve is shutting up shop later in the year and they show as out of stock on his website but might be worth dropping him a mail. I'll be sure to post how I get on, now the body is done I will be turning to the underframe!

These are the tanks:

Anyway, 26005 has had the grills replaced, I am not sure where these came from but I think they are either JLTRT or PRMRP/MMP. The original plan was to just fit the additional ones for a 26/0 and keep the rest for potential future projects, however it just didn't look right with different grills. I think this looks much better.

Thanks Al, I have been in touch with Steve Beattie and no luck. Looks like good old build from scratch. I can take some measurements from my 00 gauge Heljan model and see how  i go.

Cheers Peter.

I have sent you a message Peter, but I can also lay my set out with a ruler if it helps.

Bit more progress this weekend. Cam's 37402 now ready for top coat's so it will get dropped off next week en-route for my bi-weekly social distancing shop. Also some progress over on the layout thread too!

Although I have had a week off there hasn't been a massive amount of progress. Cam has been working his magic in the paint shop so first up is 26005 getting its grey coats:

Secondly I have (very) slowly been building some more of Paul's Blackadder wagons. Final bits before paint added this morning followed by priming, then this afternoon a couple of coats of yellow:

Should be able to mask the Blackadders up tomorrow and spray the black. Then I will just be waiting some more transfers. I really need to crack on with the chassis for the 26 so that will likely be top of the list of things to do this week. will see how I get on!

Last day off, back to the grind tomorrow. Not done anywhere near as much as I wanted but I've got the black on these today, little bit of bleed round the edges but nothing that can't be sorted. Just need some more chevrons from Steve at Railtec and I can finish these off.

An hour or so last night and another just now and the cab steps for 26005 are complete. I am in no way an expert in soldering, probably not even a novice so I apologise for the state of these, hopefully with a good coat of paint any indiscretions will be lost! I don't think I want to see another set of brass cab steps for some time now..…...

I suppose its all about practice! I bought a PRMRP BDA at Telford last year and got so far then gave it up as a bad job, I ought to get it back out and crack on again. Think I got stuck with where to fit the bogie mounts as the instructions aren't the best. I was going to have a good look at one at our show last November but was busy all day Saturday then on the Sunday I wasn't particularly well!

This is where I got to:

New

Little and often seems to be make some progress. While the boss was still snoozing this morning I did as much as I can in terms of transfer on my 3 additional Blackadders, some slight variation to logo's and positioning to give some variety. Just now waiting on Steve at Railtec for some more chevrons and I can finish these off.

Well after a pretty crap day at work where by everything I seemed to touch either didn't go to plan or just went wrong, I set down with a set of GJH Davis & Lloyd bogies. An hour or so later I have another set of bogies ready for paint to go under either a PXA or JNA Wagon.

Again, not a lot of progress, but a delivery yesterday will help things along a bit, a nice pile of transfers from Railtech. Not all for me I might add, a good few of these will be going on to Cam this week for various projects from both our stables. These have meant that a Dogfish I picked up the other week has got a new set of numbers, along with a Catfish (which I already had a set for) and the two POA's above that needed chevrons. All four wagons will be getting satin varnished today and so later on or early this week I should be able to do the last couple of bits on the POA's and they can go off to Cam for some dirt!

Got the last bits done on my other three POA's today so that's the scrap train done for now (1x JNA & 4x POA's), I may well add another JNA at some point as I have enough spare transfers for a second one without having to buy more chevrons. 37423 has also been across the bend for some adjustment to and replacement of some sections of the ploughs, now released back to traffic.

Managed to get down the garden just as 37423 was trundling though. Trust me not to notice a) I hadn't sat it on the rails properly and b) the eth cable had come adrift!

Next up on the bench is a Dapol 08, this was bought at a very advantageous prices as a second due to it missing a door. This will get replaced at some point (probably with a set of wooden doors which will need paint) but for now we'll get it something like then that can be dealt with later. Turns out its not just the missing door, seems it was actually 08795 and has had the number badly removed and some paint thrown at it, nothing we can't tidy up mind!

Back after the move and just catching up Al, some really excellent stuff going on here, NICE.:good:

Thanks Andy, good to see you back. Been a bit slow, but there are bits coming off the WB. Should have another 26 finished off over the next couple of weeks now we have transfers, just need Cam to finish the paint and I need to finish re-building the chassis! New layout is completely stalled at the mo as Cam's not working on it and I can't access it! Just waiting a kit for the next building and then progress will get made again.

Hi Al, your 37423 looks great. My nameplates arrived the other day they are a lovely  etch.

Following your work on the class 26 tanks too I will have to do that to mine. I am still interested in the tanks when you get a chance to go to the post office.

Cheers Peter.

Hi Peter,

I have already put them to one side for you, but thought I'd see what I can make of my set first. I have a been provided with some really good detail shots for the pipe runs and have got my 26024 back with the JLTRT tanks so will be having a tinker later today. The Steve Beatie ones seem to be a good match to the JLTRT ones, but are missing the chassis fittings so the frame comes up about 2mm shorter, I am thinking I may mount them on a piece of 'I' beam or just a length or strip to lower them slightly. Brackets all need manufacturing then the pipe runs adding. Will post an update when I have got them sorted.

Can't believe its been over a month since I last updated this thread. Not a lot going on at the moment, lack of motivation, but hopefully get few bits done this weekend. A little job that has progressed over the last few weeks (and after getting some new red paint at the weekend) is now pretty much ready is a 'Smart Models' postman & post box.

Now I have never painted any figures before, maybe a little dirt on the postman and bag at some point but I am quite happy with this.

Well @Andrew P you wanted to see a Bus under the bridge on our new layout, well this week you might get your wish as this is nearing completion so hopefully this week it can be suitably placed on the layout.

Modern 1/43 buses are somewhat hard to come by, but this is a Hachette models Bova Futura re-worked to UK spec (right hand drive, left hand doors) and re-painted in National Express livery with bespoke transfers, should look quite the part. Still a little way to go, but nearly there. Satin Varnish later and re-instate the windows etc tomorrow then it will just be the interior.
