A new addition to the fleet courtesy of my colleagues who presented me with a retirement gift.  Wasn't sure whether to get this one or green with full yellow ends but in the end opted for this.

Have now started putting my workshop back together so it won't be long before I can get into some serious modelling time

Not been able to get anywhere near the layout for weeks but finally can access the model room again where I have these 2 boards set up.

First a couple of shots of the 08 cheekily playing with the OCA

08-OCA-2.jpg.e837460cb28f4e5ba0725096ac93ae42.jpg

Then the new Hymek which is in the platform road with a Gresley BCK totally out of period!

I'll post something more suitable next week when the GUV's arrive

So took delivery today of a new IXO 1:43 Volvo F10 cab and container trailer. Came via that well known action site and shipped from Italy with excellent tracking info.

The cab is RHD and will need converting in due course and the airlines are fitted although not connected to the trailer.

Volvo-1.jpg.d6e71ce58d8bb677c7286bb434cee54b.jpg

Volvo-2.jpg.ab0864db56527e9752c24bf8b8bc3fde.jpg

Volvo-3.jpg.6c5f709017f746a86034c7f8ccd0f46e.jpg

Volvo-4.jpg.3f59c8c580c9a5e0d816785bd856a622.jpg

Volvo-5.jpg.398b2ec53946bc4e82bb486f0470a119.jpg

The most interesting part of this is that it is fixed with two 20' ISO containers which although are fitted to the trailer will come offf by loosening the screws so I will be able to carry them on the FFA/FGA Freightliner set.

They are scaled at 8'6'' high so slightly larger that the 8' versions I am scratch building and which will therefore provide some variety. These are the first truly scale 1:43 containers I have seen.

What I did discover as I measure them up is that my scratchbuilt version of the 20' container is slightly short but not enough to warrant doing anything about it. The 30' containers are both to scale.

The cab is a 1983 model and is slightly outside of my timeframe but rule 1 applies and I have a large logo 56 on order and a large logo 50 which are both pushing the envelope.

I'll have the containers off the trailer later and pose on the FFA/FGA.

In other news the two GUV's have been handed over (birthday present) and will be making an appearance soon also.

Lastly the new soldering desk has arrived so I can now get things back together in my modelling room and start to crack on with the new projects and finish some of the started ones!

Thanks for the review, looks a nice model. The cab was in use from 1977 and there were very minor visual differences between the 1977 and 1983 variant so it won't look out of place.

Who's are the OCA wagons - PRMRP or JM Hughes?

Paul

This was RJH when I built it but now available from PRMRP. Its not a bad kit.  I also have their VGA which I will post at some point and that one took a lot of fettling and additional construction to get it to build not least the fact the instructions are inacurate and if you follow them you won't finish it!

Good to know.

Its surprising how many 1:43 trucks there are out there form this era. There is another Volvo with Rigid chassis I have my eye on

I assume you meant LHD, but it looks superb, just a pity I haven't got room on my Layout for such a handsome beast.

I think the cab is LHD and needs to be converted to RHD for UK roads where we sit on the right and drive on the left.

So today's update is on VGA and GUV's

First the VGA - this is a very old RJH kit which was not easy to build. It has 3 point suspension but because its so old and not been used much its seized up although it still runs true. Would not recommend this kit for a beginner.

VGA-2.jpg.5aa2e6a17b86d3ce9f06959204001203.jpg

VGA-3.jpg.bf726cdf5a5bd54c3da6fac6badd79b8.jpg

VGA-1.jpg.5feb0f1eb2ff8bc8916c3504e9861eb8.jpg

Next the GUV's. These are from the latest Heljan batch and are shown with the Hymek on the Braintree parcels!

They are not perfect but will do and help increase my coaching stock fleet which up until now has been very thin.

GUV-1.jpg.04050be9b5f90f591464305329ac3bed.jpg

GUV-6.jpg.c75ced5c3ae2807f71dc91007b6140e4.jpg

I have not had a proper look at them yet but they roll well enough. I now need a CCT and a BG to complete the rake and I shall also be getting the new Minereva Siphon G to add a bit of variety.

Hi Paul,

Looks great, I take it the OCA is a kit?

Hi Julian

Yes its an RJH kit as was and now available from PRMRP. It's relatively easy to build and makes ups into a nice wagon. The only difficult bit is the fold at the top of the wagon sides which needs patience.

  • 2 weeks later...

Sorry for the lack of posts but I have been away visiting the daughter in Plymouth which was the first time I had seen her in 15m.

Anyhow back on the Braintree branch there has been a delivery. A colleague of mine from my old work has sent me this Freightliner 08 and I am blown away by his generosity.

He knows I model in O gauge but not the period and this is way out of my timeframe. However its a late version air braked example unlike the others I have.  So what to do with it. Do I

1. Repaint it blue?

2. Keep as is and get a Dapol 66 in matching livery.

3. Leave as is and come back to it another day.

4. Keep as a display model

I am minded to repaint in blue and leave the coupling rods yellow as it will then be different from the other blue one I have?

I don't want to sell it as that would be disrespectful.

Shunter-3.jpg.8e977b256e23f339e16fcec53e69e0ec.jpg

I suppose I could swap it out for another one?

I need to get back to finishing these 2 wagons. Just have one side of the brake gear to finish on the LowFit and then I can paint them

Bought another 1:43 lorry from that well known auction site. Another Volvo set in the blue period. Very cheap - got it for £12.00. Its in a DeAgostino box but the cab has an IXO logo underneath so we know its provenance.

This one will be easier than the last to convert to RHD and the logos will come off and be replaced with something English.

I think I had better stop buying these for now!
