Bachmann 2018/19 RELEASES
Bachmann Europe has announced its 2018/19 programme and released its new catalogues covering the Bachmann Branchline (OO and OO9 Scales) and Graham Farish (N Scale) ranges at a Trade Event held near Birmingham today.
New Tooling – Graham Farish (N Scale)

Steam Locomotives
SR N Class (REVISED TOOLING)

The popular N class model by Graham Farish has seen revisions to the tender tooling to provide a Next 18 DCC decoder socket and space for Digital Sound to be fitted. This year sees the much requested southern livery fitted with smoke deflectors for the first time.

Class 47 LONG RANGE FUEL TANK VERSIONS (NEW TOOLING)
This year we are adding to our range of class 47 models and are now going to offer an all new ‘extended range’ class 47. During the 1990s a number of class 47/4s were fitted with long range fuel tanks and RCH jumper cables for working mail and parcels trains, becoming class 47/7. Those locomotives fitted with just the extended fuel tanks for passenger work become class 47/8. We will be producing these locomotives for the first time with a ‘Crewe cut’ buffer beam

Diesel Multiple Units
Class 251 Western Pullman (REVISED TOOLING TO CAB FRONT)

Metropolitan Cammell (Birmingham) built 2 x six-car Pullman Diesel Multiple Units (TOPS code Class 251) between 1959 and 1960. The two six-car units worked between London St. Pancras and Manchester on the Blue Pullman service. Following electrification of the West Coast Main Line, Pullman services between London and Manchester transferred to the new electric railway for which new coaches were built. The two units were transferred to the Western Region in 1966 where they worked alongside 3 x eight-car units. The former Midland Region units were fitted with cables on the cab front to enable the two units to be coupled together and they received a revised BR livery adopted for Pullman services of grey and blue (reversed corporate livery). All Class 251 units were withdrawn in May 1973.

Class 158
165 x two-car and 17 x three-car units were built between 1989 and 1992 for the Regional Railways division of British Rail by British Rail Engineering Ltd at Derby. They have seen service with a considerable number of operators including current operators Abellio ScotRail, Arriva Trains Wales, East Midlands Trains, GWR, Northern and South Western Railway. This will be an all new model benefitting from our research conducted on the 4mm scale model.

The Class 450 is a member of the Siemens Desiro family for which Graham Farish already produce the Class 350 variants. The Class 450 EMUs were built by Siemens for South West Trains. A total of 127 four-car units are currently in traffic on South Western Railway long distance routes in and out of London Waterloo (since 20th August 2017).

Thanks Andy.

The 158 is good news, the old model being in desperate need of replacement. Pleased to see the 450 appear in N gauge also. I am surprised by the lack of a new tool steam engine this year however. Is this the first time since Bachmann took over the Farish range?

I'm happy to see existing tooling being revised to accommodate sound, what would seem to be a sensible move given the apparent popularity of the recent sound fitted models, although for steam I would perhaps have expected to see one of the larger engines get the treatment over the N Class. That said, one will probably find its way onto the pre-order list.

Overall, as expected given past years announcements.

Railfeight grey 47018 is a very nice addition. There should be a good few renumbering opportunities there.

I would have liked to have seen more coach liveries such as MK2s in Provincial/Regional Railways and ScotRail, as well as more BG and GUV liveries from the same era.

What about MK2 Aircons and DBSOs? Are they not on the list because they were announced previously, or off the 2018 radar?

Some of the buildings look interesting, I'll consider a red stripe 20 and a 158 although I don't expect the latter will surface until after the OO one which seems to be in what Hollywood call 'Development Hell' and has been for years.

Presumably like the OO versions, a retooled 170 and 171 is also on the cards for 2019?

Ok, while my disappointment expressed in the other thread on this subject still stands, picking through the bones of this full list of releases there are at least a few things I might be interested in.

The green Next 18 Class 31 with speaker will be welcome for starters alongside the Late Crest J72.

I am a little confused though, the J72 was in last year's announcements, and is repeated here for 2018/19 whereas 8F, C Class and Thompson coaches do not feature in the list, does this mean they are not expected in the 2018/19 timeframe or is there another reason?

Although the catalogue numbers correspond, the J72 liveries and numbers are completely different. Suspect there is some need for careful comparisons with last year’s list for several items. It will play havoc with the pre-orders!

Yes, I'll be interested in a TPE 350 but not a chance at that price. They'll drop over time.

Anyone know if its the obsolete purple livery or the new silver one?

It's the new silver livery

AS I have commented on the N Gauge Forum.  Nothing for me in  this lot.  I have a full fleet of DMUs for Allanbrae, my new contemporary Scottish terminus.  Hoping the  Crowd Funded 320 in Saltire will make it to production - deposit paid.  And looking forward to the  DJM Clayton as well for my 50s/60s layout.  Meanwhile can Farish please prioritise the earlier promises - notably the Thompson coaches - I want 3 or 4 .

The prices are rather alarming - I'm glad I purchased so much stock when I could afford it over the past 15 years, £230 from Hattons for a 350 and £180 for a 158....surely these prices are just not sustainable.

David

And that's assuming that these prices don't rise before the models become available.

From the photos it appears we’re alteady at livery sample stage for the N, 31s & Western Pullman, which means the lead times on these models shouldn’t be that long.

Some odd choices there. virgin 47/8 why not an IC one to go with the forthcoming IC Mk2 air cons?

sound fitting the Colas 47...really? I suppose it will shift a limited Livery version.

Still no second issue blue grey Mk1 FK.

Overall a cheap year for me, nothing of interest today apart from 47018.

Shame that the sound Castle set has Pullman coaches (but not surprising given the name). Bachmann really should have put this with some of their fantastic Hawksworths and called it the Riviera, Bristolian etc.

Further to the sound sets, it will be interesting to see what controller these are packaged with, especially as the ez controller will not allow access to all of the sound functions.

Following my initial expression of disappointment it is good to note that 8F and Thompsons are now in the drawing office working up towards CADs. Hopefully as the NGS Thompson BG is already here and R&D done for the 00 models it shouldn't take long for CADs to be finalised and tooling to start.

C Class at EP stage already is good news. A BR or possibly even a SE&CR one may be a rare "Rule 1" purchase.

J72 is still at the research stage. It was announced last year so clearly hasn't got very far.

Still there are other things to look forward to like the NGS Hunslets, DJM Claytons and whatever RevolutioN has up their sleeves to follow the Class B tanks, so looking at the bigger picture, on reflection it could be worse.
