Pete Harvey
Russ I was not implying that you had posted anything "clever with words" I'm sorry if that has offended you. As Mark has suggested lets put this behind us and learn from it and move on.
RMweb Gold Roy Langridge Posted January 16, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 16, 2018 (edited) Happy New Year all. Over the Christmas period i finished something I have been working for a while. I have designed it to fit on the Hornby class 08 frame there is a mode for the Hornby frame which will involve removing the cast wings either side of the 8 pin socket. PH4S08-1-P9.jpg PH4S08-1-P14.jpg As with the Hornby 08 I have modeled the cab so it slides over the cab end of the body to fit <snip> With the body and cab I will be supplying etched etched front grill, steps and name plates with body side grills, so that the four shunter's 08992-5 cam be modeled. The body and cab have been designed so DCC lighting and sound can be fitted. I will post pictures of the body once I get one and show it fitted. I assume from your post that 08991 was different in some way such that your body does not match? Was it the equipment boxes on the sides? Edit: Ok - so I can answer my own question in so far as the boxes are different on 08991 on one side. There may be more differences that I have not spotted (I stopped looking at that point). I may well have to build one of these - I always liked the 08/9s and your pictures look excellent. Thanks, Roy Edited January 16, 2018 by Roy Langridge
Pete Harvey
Roy From the info I have collected 08992-5 were converted for restricted height use 08991 was not mentioned in any info I have seen. 08992 was only in use for a short while and the apparently failed and was scrapped for some reason leaving 08993-5 as the remaining versions. RMweb Gold Roy Langridge Posted January 16, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 16, 2018 (edited) Roy From the info I have collected 08992-5 were converted for restricted height use 08991 was not mentioned in any info I have seen. 08992 was only in use for a short while and the apparently failed and was scrapped for some reason leaving 08993-5 as the remaining versions. Originally 08991 to 08993 were converted. If I recall correctly only 08993 was dual braked and it was considered cheaper to cut-down another two, 08994 and 08995, than to convert the first two. The names were transferred to the new two and the originals scrapped. Not my photo, but here they are in the scrap line: http://www.wnxx.com/images/scrap/index.php?level=picture&id=290 Edit: 08991 was converted from 08203. 08991 and 08992 were vacuum braked only. 08994 and 08995 were converted in 1987. Hope that helps, Roy Edited January 16, 2018 by Roy Langridge

Swindon 123
This sub-class 08/9 is a little more complicated that I first realised. 08991 was originally 08203 and along with 08992 (08259) & 08993 (08592) had curved cab roofs. See the following links. https://flic.kr/p/chBbrJ https://flic.kr/p/yJHeDi https://flic.kr/p/rLrbv2 https://flic.kr/p/spo8bp https://flic.kr/p/KQ2upW https://flic.kr/p/rNM69V 08992 also had the distinction of carrying its original number as a cut down loco. See following links. https://flic.kr/p/dDLZMe https://flic.kr/p/maTMkD Now it becomes interesting as it would seem that 08993 had its cab roof altered to the angular type around the time 08994/5 where converted, for some reason. See photos in link below. https://flic.kr/p/brtHKM https://flic.kr/p/XsEw41 Now we come to 08994 and 08995, converted from 08462 and 08687 respectively. Both had algular cut down cabs, as seen in the photos in the links below. https://flic.kr/p/TEx78q https://flic.kr/p/aZAhP8 https://flic.kr/p/H7j3Tw However one thing to note with 08994 & 08995 is that they didn't keep their original bonnet doors. Both had bonnet doors with outside hinges, which I suspect they inherited the bonnet doors from the withdrawn 08991 & 08992, saving the cost of altering their original ones. 08993 had doors with inside hinges, that it kept all its life. All 5 locos had wooden cab doors. And there was me thinking it was a simple class 08 sub class! Paul J. Edited to correct info on 08993 being dual braked from conversion. RMweb Gold Roy Langridge Posted January 17, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 17, 2018 I am fairly certain that 08993 was dual braked from the start, hence its survival. I will check this when I am home tonight. If that was the case, I guess the angled cab room may have been to either provide more clearance or to give the crews a but more headroom? RMweb Gold Roy Langridge Posted January 18, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 18, 2018 I am really looking forward to these. Any idea when you will be able to show us a fitted body Peter? I didn’t ever expect to have an option to create one. Thanks, Roy
Pete Harvey
I should have a body and cab in about two weeks all being well. Wwhen I test fit it I will take some pictures, it will be fitted to a standard Hornby 08 chassis with the necessary mods done to it but without the etched grill or steps fitted and probably in primer. truffy
Could this be adapted Would you be interested in adapting this to a Maunsell 350hp? Edited January 26, 2018 by truffy
Pete Harvey
Hi all well I had the 08 bodies come during the week and they are good. They have been cleaned and I have primer-ed them they will look better with some colour on them though. I also have had some Nickle Silver etched name plates and body grills produced for them. There are still needing the etched front grill and steps for the Hornby chassis both of these will make it look more like an 08

admiles
As a 7mm modeller with one Landore 08 already in my small fleet I'm wondering if gently floating the idea of a replacement cab in 7mm for the Dapol 08 would tweak anything with you Pete? Pete Harvey
I will be looking into that during this year but no promises.

Great Western
Just seen the post up stream, an O gauge version for the Dapol chassis would be order for one at least from me ! Edited February 28, 2018 by Great Western
Pete Harvey
The Height Restricted 08 Conversion Kits will be added to the website over the weekend. RMweb Premium ColinK Posted May 23, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 23, 2018 Very tempting. One now ordered. Anyone got a Hornby 08 chassis they don’t need?
Castle
Hi Pete, I know the last thing you need is this to turn into a wish list thread but I have a small suggestion. After doing so well with the 08, how about a replacement 03 cab for the lowered versions like No. D2120 at Fawley? All the best, Castle
Pete Harvey
For those interested I have started work on a conversion design for the Dapol class 08. It's still early days in the design and the media it will be produced in has not been decided yet. Once I get further into the design I will post some CAD renders.
