Thanks Doilum I saw that one, what does it fit into?

Cheers Tim

It doesn't use a die so the rivets are not quite as shapely as the press type. You experiment with materials under the work. Cornflake box card works well.

The advantage over the simple hammer type is the weight of each drop is consistent. It also doubles up as a centre punch for accurate drilling.

If you are starting out on a long scratchbuilding career, a press that controls the pitch and keeps a straight line is a worthwhile, if expensive investment. Unless funds are unlimited, each tool needs to justify its purchase.

No excuses now!

Expect some exquisite Victorian engineering on these pages. a scratch built saddle tank or a 10T tank wagon perhaps?

No pressure then! Here is my first project with the riveting tool, it made very short work of the scores of rivets I had to do.

Cheers Tim

Looking good. I found Jim's J39 a most enjoyable build. Sometimes regret selling it.

Loading Platforms

I've been making some loading bay platforms for the 'clean' side of the brewery. This will be the dispatch end with two sidings, one long which can accommodate 4 wagons and a short one of 2 wagon lengths. Eventually this will have a canopy and a building at the end.  For now I'm just doing the platforms. They are ready for painting.

Loco Shed - or Pygmies Refreshed

I've been meaning to finish off the loco shed. I finally fixed the doors on the shed ends.  The idea is that they will always be open both ends. The far end will have a coaling stage at some point.  I am thinking Neasden in the 1960s if people have seen that in the last days of LT steam.

I've also made the roof support angles for the interior.  I'll paint them as soon as the weather clears up.  I had a debate with myself about fitting these as you would have to be a contortionist to see them.

After this I will fix the roof on and weather the shed.

Cheers Tim

I've pretty much finished the loco shed now, making the roof angles, putting in down pipes and guttering.  It was my first building so I've learnt a lot from it.  I'll get around to weathering it soon and I want to detail the interior - oil cans, tools etc.

Cheers Tim

Vat Building for Green Leaf

I decided to try to give more interest to the end of my layout where I've been building the loading dock. I was going to do the water tower next but I have big and elaborate plans for this so I thought it would be good to get some experience with something simpler.  This will be the vat building where the beer is stored prior to ranking.  It's based on the style of the Barrel wash building with some tweaks such as square industrial windows. I'm sticking with LCut card and windows.  The building won't have sides as it is against the back scene here.  The final building will be hard up against the loading bay with a more three dimensional loading bay building to the left and the racking building in front. Early days but I'll post progress.

Cheers Tim

I've made quite a lot of progress on the new building, listening to a lot of stuff on the radio I player!

These photos show the gradual additions of headers, buttresses etc. I'm please with it and the card is behaving itself, or am I just learning how to avoid chipping off bricks.

Tim,

I've said this before, but I love the way the layout is developing, particularly the buildings. The scale and mass of them is superb, very imposing and makes for a hugely impressive overall scene. It is great to see this industrial kind of setting in 7mm scale.

The setting suits the Hudswell Clarke and Peckett perfectly! :)

Keep up the good work!

David

Thanks very much for you kind comments.  I did a bit more over the weekend including the mortar, it's not finished but I think it's good to see how the layers are built up.

I've done a bit more on the Racking shed building including painting and adding a sign for the building.  As a complex location I think it would need signs to orientate new arrivals. I taken the photos next to the other building to give me a sense of how a row of them will look. I'm cracking on with another building which will pair with this one.

Cheers Tim

This is so good..............when can we expect the first pint? :thankyou: Fantastic modelling!!

Mike

Thanks very much Mike.  Funnily enough Greenleaf has been producing for a long time - here are some stills from  the 1939 Ealing Film Cheers Boys Cheer which I mentioned right at the start of the blog strand. I found it had been re released on DVD.  It isn't a classic film but it is very amusing.
