Aldgate Box Boy
Hi everyone, I started on the next bit of the Racking Shed/ Loading Bay building over the weekend. this will be 3D coming out of the back scene by about 5cm. The idea is to give a return on to the Racking Shed Building. I try to make each building slightly different and this one will have a sliding door. Eventually the loading bay platform will have a stand alone canopy. I'm definitely getting quicker at doing this although you have to be so careful cutting the laser cut card. Fastdax
I've done a bit more on the Racking shed building including painting and adding a sign for the building. As a complex location I think it would need signs to orientate new arrivals. I taken the photos next to the other building to give me a sense of how a row of them will look. I'm cracking on with another building which will pair with this one. Cheers Tim Needs a dirty wash!
Aldgate Box Boy
Latest progress on the new building. I've put in the headers, sills and the windows, plus the RSJ. I'm going to attach the two sides later today. Cheers Tim
Aldgate Box Boy
Hi some more images of progress. It's now 3D! Still a bit of filling work to do but here are some images of the building in place. I've been thinking a lot about sight lines and atmosphere, I think it's coming along. Aldgate Box Boy
I've got the building up to the point where I can begin painting. I am making sliding doors for the loading bay and soldered two strips of brass together and put in rough rivet detail. Probably not the most exciting post!
Aldgate Box Boy
Hi more progress, painted the building in the brick/ undercoat. Also shown is the sliding door arrangement in various stages. Obviously nothing is finished or fixed in yet. Cheers Tim
Aldgate Box Boy
The new building is now painted and the doors put on. Still needs 'glass' in the windows etc. Cheers Tim
Father Dougal
That looks very nice. You know, rail room electronics do some really nice wall mounted swan necked lights. They would look good by the loading area. No connection to the company, just a happy customer. Dougal.

Are they difficult to wire in? I was going to get around to lighting later but I guess i should think about it now while I'm actually building the layout. I took another shot yesterday, I'm really pleased with it. thanks, cheers Tim

I just wired them up to a 12v power unit. They are not too bright either and give a nice realistic golden light. Dougal

Aldgate Box Boy
Hi all, I decided to return to the Toad brake van kit after lots of building distractions. I've said that I can't do anymore buildings until it's done (ish). So over the weekend I put the handrails on. Next is the sand box locker which looks awkward it fit as it's very tight. Aldgate Box Boy
More Brake Van progress I assembled the sand box moldings and put on the steps which was easier than I thought, Moving on to the wheels next! Cheers Tim
Aldgate Box Boy
I've been making slow progress on the guards van. I made a mistake lining up the wheels - should have trusted big Jim's instructions! My friend David at EKOGG fixed me up and helped me with my soldering. The roof is not fixed.

Aldgate Box Boy
Morning all, I did a few things to the loading bay building to finish it off a bit. This included putting handles on the doors and weathering - my lovely green doors are all mucky! I've also put in the glazing and put blackout paper behind. I've also included a view of the whole layout so people can get a sense of progress. It's not quite a year since I got the track in place so in someways I've done a lot, but still loads to do. Aldgate Box Boy
New arrival at the brewery I couldn't resist getting one of the Dapol LT Panniers - it's a beautiful model. cheers Tim
Simond
Not sure if this link will work, but an exquisite example of a weathered version. Yorky D's Küchentisch - From 1 to 3 hp Hope of interest Simon
Aldgate Box Boy
Not sure if this link will work, but an exquisite example of a weathered version. Yorky D's Küchentisch - From 1 to 3 hp Hope of interest Simon Thanks Simon, the link wasn't working but I saw a 00 version being weathered in one of the magazines. I'm going to have to pluck up the courage to do that, not my strongest point! Cheers Tim
RMweb Premium Siberian Snooper Posted November 12, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 12, 2018 Thanks Simon, the link wasn't working but I saw a 00 version being weathered in one of the magazines. I'm going to have to pluck up the courage to do that, not my strongest point! Cheers Tim I would suggest that you practice on something else first, either an old body or a Dapol kit. If you get it wrong you can strip it and start again, until you perfected a technique that you're happy with.
Aldgate Box Boy
Building the Brewhouse Hi all I began my next project over the weekend - Green Leaf's Brewhouse complete with coppers and vats inside. The idea is that this building will be positioned at the back left hand end of the layout. It's not tremendously complicated but is quite large. Here are a couple of images - not where it will end up. I've also taken a couple with the barrel wash building in a different place to try out sight lines. I like the idea of large buildings in the middle of the layout but I'm thinking of the practicalities. Cheers Tim
Aldgate Box Boy
Hi all, making (slow) progress with the Brew House. most of the headers, window sills and brick features are in. Next job is to get the windows in. Cheers Tim
