I am sorry to announce that Steffan has passed away.

Steffan passed away in his sleep.
I think Dave Nicholson the Chairman of the MMRG summed him up

It is my very sad duty to inform you all that Steffan Lewis, a founder member of the MMRG, Wells, (and active member until ten years ago) passed away in his sleep earlier this week. Stefan was an extremely good and boundary pushing model maker, quiet spoken, industrious, achiever with a great deal of time for the lest experienced modeller.

His pleasures, at which he excelled, included Wind Organ Restoration, Woodworking, Model making and Railway modelling in particular

Steffan, who was in his late 50’s, had not enjoyed the best of health for a while, but appeared by those who had recently spent time in his company to be improving. This was a very unexpected turn of events.

Steffan will be missed by all of those who knew him and his legacy will be enjoyed by thousands who marvelled at his modelling and musical prowess.

Steffan's death was unexpected. The reason for his death is not yet known.

Steffan was the builder of Maindee East as well as the central part of Aberhafren.

He was also a professional model railway builder, recently specialising in scratch building models of cranes.

I got to know Steffan through the Cardiff 4mm group. He always attended our show in Cardiff and came as an exhibitor on a few occasions with Maindee East which always attracted a big audience. A really nice guy who never boasted about his talents and let his layout speak for itself. It will be a fitting tribute to keep his layout on the exhibition circuit as an inspiration to others who want to achieve modelling excellence.

As previous contributors have said, Steffan was a thoroughly pleasant, quiet but very supportive of others efforts, sort of character . I first met him when viewing

Aberhafren many years ago, and kept in touch through exhibiting over the years. "Maindee East"  rightly deserves a place among the finest of layouts in many

peoples opinion and is a wonderful tribute to a superb modeller. My sincere condolences to all Steffan's friends and family.  RIP mate
