Poor Old Bruce Posted February 2, 2018 Share Posted February 2, 2018 Just to stir things up a bit, the outer (carrying) wheels on the 'Ashford' type bogie for the SR diesels, Class 40s and Peaks were usually referred to as 'pony' wheels but were actually steered radially. jim.snowdon Posted February 2, 2018 Share Posted February 2, 2018 Correct, although they weren't radial axles in the old fashioned sense. They were pony trucks, but instead of having an actual pivot, they were controlled by links between the truck and the bogie headstock which, by being non-parallel, caused the truck to rotate about a virtual centre back under the bogie.
