Just enjoyed and pentrex DVD "rails around Chicago" shot in the early 90s just shocking to see of about the 15 or so railroads that are mentioned in the film only 3 I know of today CSX, UP and NS and then there were very few locos in CSX most were in Chessie schemes just shows how limited model manufacturers are now when producing new units for schemes to offer thank god NS and UP did their heritage locos pity BNSF, CP and CN don't follow suit.

Well the good thing for manufacturers is they can always sell those older locos to those of us who miss the departed lines. More Dash 9s fewer GEVOs!

Personally the Wisconsin Central is the one I miss most. It had one of the best liveries any modern railroad and its roster was mainly SD45s. But CN has also mothballed the ex-WC line nearest to me, although that didn't happen until they bought the EJ&E 8 years after the WC.

Classic Trains mag [Kalmbach, from WHS in UK] always has a 'fallen flags' feature. The Winter edition has Bessemer & Lake Erie RR.

Here’s Burlington Northern’s acknowledgement of their heritage:

And Athearn did a model of #2085

Canadian Pacific have done a few locos in earlier CP liveries:

But none of absorbed lines.

As far as I know, as you say, CN have never done ‘heritage’ schemes. However, since CN was originally formed by cobbling together a bunch of bankrupt roads, perhaps they don’t want to remind people of that!

CN did repaint at least one of their E8s in their traditional Yellow and Green.

I think part of the issue with either CP or CN doing a NS/UP style heritage program is they would honor American fallen flags which could cause some national pride issues for the Canadian companies. Also it doesn't help Hunter Harrison was involved with both railroads.

Perhaps not an offical 'heritage' scheme, but the workers at Interbay (seattle) did a nice job on their shoving platform/caboose back in 2012.

I wonder how many more such re-paints have been done by local crews?.

Funny, I'm not keen on the WC livery because of its association with EWS

CN doesn't need to do heritage units. Some of their units are still running in their fallen flag schemes (IC and BCRail for sure) and a lot are running in older versions of the black and red schemes.

Yes, I recall seeing a BC Rail Dash-8 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, when I was there in 2012! I prefer to see 'heritage' on its old stamping ground. Could never be bothered to go watch a 'Castle' on the East Coast main line, for instance. (CJL)

Fair, I'd probably have a worst feeling about it if I lived near the MMA. Tho I will say it just works better on a SD45 than a class 66.

True. I saw a GTW engine still in red and blue the other week.

Funny that you should mention a 'Castle' on the ECML. Here's 7029 'Clun Castle' at Gateshead although I'd really gone to see 4472 'Flying Scotsman' which happened to be in the same place at the same time.
