'CHARD
Great to see these coming into the theatre of conflict at last; Arriva can finally crack on and start the cascade process that retires the Pacer fleet.
Andrew liszka
Lots of these odd looking units on test and under driver training at Doncaster today 4
RMweb Gold 4630 Posted May 21, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 21, 2019 A few more photos of the new CAF built class 331s for Northern at Doncaster. 331102 seems to have been the favoured one for driver training so far... 331105 and 331107 were stabled in Doncaster West Yard with pantographs raised. 331105 with 331107 in the distance. 331105 331107 Be interesting to see how quickly these units get introduced to public service.
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted May 21, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 21, 2019 They are looking good, but in the next to last photo’ you can make out the edges of the ironing board seats. I’ll use them after their eventual introduction to service, but I’ll always take a cushion with me for my rear end and back. Best regards, Rob.
mdvle
I like the look of them, but sadly expect we will never see a model made of them.
Zomboid
Inside frame bogies always look a bit odd to me. They still look like smart modern trains, and as is usually the case, shame about the seats... 1
RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted May 22, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 22, 2019 I like the look of these too. Just wonder whether the windows are not too low. Could cause some to suffer travel sickness. Perhaps no conventional rtr model unless they also appear elsewhere in the country. But new technologies coming forward may make short production runs more of a possibility for the future.
Zomboid
I wouldn't be totally shocked to see a model of a 195. The electric versions probably not. The windows look similar to those on a desiro to me.
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted May 22, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 22, 2019 Class 108 Derby Lightweight DMU’s had a quite low window sill level, but I can’t recall anyone getting sick because of it. I loved it since you could see much more of adjacent tracks, signalling wires and all such things. So I’m confident that all will be well in that respect. If anything, on the terrible Pacers, the sill level has been far too high up making it very difficult to see much at all out of the windows.
