RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted January 20, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 20, 2020 Managed a few minutes in our own home will awaiting a furniture pick-up. I got to work on the privy so it wont be long before the signaller has somewhere to "go". Both buildings will eventually stand on reclaimed sleepers. I'll have to see if there's really a kink in the righthand track or a trick of the light. In between the lamp hut and the privy will be a coal bunker.
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted January 22, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 22, 2020 Part of this afternoon was spent getting the signal box accessories ensemble in place. Fire buckets needed. 9
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted January 23, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 23, 2020 (edited) Back to signals. Although there is one more post one to build, I built a shunt signal instead. The arm is off as it's not connected to the servo yet. This controls movements into the bay (platform 1) from the upper goods yard. I have drilled right through the lamp holder with an 0.8mm drill and glued a nano LED to the back of it. Plenty of black paint has been applied to stop the light leaking where it's not needed. I'll post another photo tomorrow after I have filled the lenses with Clearfix which I hope will take felt-tip to colour them. RMweb Gold lezz01 Posted January 23, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 23, 2020 Very nice Jonathan. You can make lenses with a dot of PVA which drys clear with a slight yellowish tint. Regards Lez. 1

Use a blue, or blueish green, for the green.
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted January 24, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 24, 2020 I don't know whether the Clearfix has worked as I may have poked through it with the felt tip pen. Well it appears to be red but from viewing distance I've a job to tell whether the signal is on or off let alone what colour is showing! I may try PVA in the next one.
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted February 1, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 1, 2020 I am in the process of making the final post signal for the layout. This signal controls the departures from the bay, platform No 1 and the main platform No 2. The small arm controls wrong line departures over the down main line when the up line is in use as a head-shunt for the upper goods yard. The holes in the trimmer beam are for the pins which hold the operating cranks. The supporting brackets and coloured lenses are yet to be fitted. 9
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted February 14, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 14, 2020 (edited) Following a week of having grandson (3) and playing with his Brio train set, I got back to my own and planted the last post signal and got all connected up. 2P gets the right o' way, wrong line, with a local for Chinley while a Jinty hidden behind the starters uses the up line as a head-shunt. The 1F is deputising for a 1P and will follow once the up line is clear with the Millers Dale shuttle. Just 4 ground signals to go and I think the signalling will be complete. Since first putting up this post I was dis-satisfied with how it operated, so the bits you cannot see were rebuilt and it works fine, it just took me two weeks to do it. A lot of the parts like the weighted levers, cranks and ladder are from Ratio's LMS UQ kits, so motorising these is quite possible. RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted February 21, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 21, 2020 Having replaced much of the beneath baseboard gubbins for the main/bay starter signals here are a couple of photos. The all stations to Chinley gets the all clear. Followed by the branch shuttle to Millers Dale 9
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted March 4, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 4, 2020 I been playing around with Plastikard to create some of the wooden huts and sheds that used to clutter up goods yards and loco sheds. Here's the first and when I've decided where it will go it will be planted into the ground cover. 11
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted March 5, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 5, 2020 (edited) A year ago, believe it or not, @gordon s and @BMacdermott suggested getting rid of the turnouts at the turntable end of the fiddle yard. Well this evening they came up. More tomorrow. Edited March 5, 2020 by Rowsley17D
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted March 7, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 7, 2020 (edited) Well, "tomorrow" came and went. But here is the reworking so far. The curves at the ends are not as severe as they appear and the G2 has no trouble negotiating them. Just the tracks to glue down and one siding needs a feed wire. This new arrangement does away with 5 turnouts and associated electrical gubbings from Minx Microdrive system which I found very unreliable although they are still use at the throat end of the fiddle yard for now, although as finance allows may well be replaced by servos. Part of shed yard, just for fun. Edited March 7, 2020 by Rowsley17D

RMweb Gold lezz01 Posted March 7, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 7, 2020 Well that's very nice Jonathan. Anything that saves on electrical gubbins is a win for me every time. Regards Lez. 2
gordon s
That is so much better, Jonathan and your ADM turntable should be easily able to cope with the alignment. Well worth the effort.....
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted March 12, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 12, 2020 (edited) In between gluing track down at the turntable end of the fiddle yard and sorting out the best of the Minx Microdrive bits to change the turnouts at the other end of it, I built another shed. A little longer this time although still a nominal 8' wide. I have one of the Butterley buildings and wondered if it could be used in the shed area? Or is too much like a station building? Hi Al, no the Hornby Butterley building is straight out of the box except I've put it into Midland Railway colours which need toning down a bit. Or do you mean the sheds? RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted March 13, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 13, 2020 A small package arrived in this morning's post from Intentio http://intentio.co.uk/ This has meant that the coal yard now has a Pooley weighbridge. And some additional coal staithes - before weathering And after. 10

RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted March 13, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 13, 2020 I keep moving he outbuildings around which is why they float above the ground. I must make up my mind and get them planted.
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted March 13, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 13, 2020 Not only does the weigh bridge look great the whole scene ties together nicely And the coal staithes have been weathered perfectly 1 1
RMweb Gold Rowsley17D Posted April 2, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 2, 2020 Nothing done to the layout since the Covid-19 lock-down, but I did manage to get some modelling materials and wagons brought back to the clergy house. The wagons are ones that have been awaiting repairs for several years in some cases and others that I started to build but never got round to finishing. First up were the repair jobs. A MR 8 Ton 5-plank coal wagon by Slaters and an LMS 12 Ton 3-plank general merchandise wagon to D1727 by Ratio which needs the inside lightening. Two Ratio coal traffic wagons of LNWR origin. A Cambrian 5-plank general merchandise open to D1667 and a 20 ton brake van by Dundas Parkside. Sorry about the lack of focus.
