The rest of the louvers have been made, painted and positioned although being black they don't show up too well.

The open end of Buxton's trainshed was covered in corrugated sheets. I wanted something better so went for homemade wooded board with York Modelmaking valancing. Here it is just Blu-tacked in position. The dirty marks are where it picked up old paint off my cutting mat.

Seems a pity to cover up the superb view along the platforms through the roof trusses, but excellent work all round.

Thanks. When the wind is in the east at Buxton I'm sure passengers were glad the gable was covered. There was even a 1/2 platform width screen adjoining the building as well, but I'm not thinking of doing one myself.

The open gable has now been closed off with the painted screen which I have managed to paint a different cream from the columns which in the photo looks pink! I managed to move the building too, hence the leaning columns. I'm off to repaint it now as it looks worse in the photo than it actually does.

A photo along the roof trusses is still possible.

Excellent work you have done there Jonathan. It has made me very nostalgic for my youth. I note that you haven't put the wind break in but then that would spoil the marvelous view up the platform. Spot on!

Best regards

Nick

Thanks, Nick. I hope it won't be too long before we see some more photos from Wormdale.

The starter signals for platform 3 have been refurbished. These signals didn't have lamps fitted and the operating rods and cranks were awkward. I think this was my first set of signals with 2 on one post. The main signal is for normal departures over the up line, the smaller board for wrong line departures over the down line when the up line is being used as a head shunt for the goods yard.

Signals look so much better when the lamps are lit Jonathan. Well done mate.

Regards Lez.

Thanks Lez. I've a bracket (bay starter) with a lamp out as well as the home signal that protects the off-scene junction with the LNWR. The wires to the LEDs are very fine being shellac covered or similar and are easily broken but then they wouldn't go through the hollow posts if they were thicker.

Lovely work on the signals, sorry to ask what lamps did you use? I Have built a couple of signals which need lamps fitted. I don’t fancy my chances With fibre optics and had thought of the lamps made by dcc components, are these the ones you used?

Hi Farren

The LEDs are from DCC Concepts at Settle. They are their Nano LED " Sunny White" and come in packs of 6. They more than easily fit into ModelU signal lamps which I know are GWR but once fitted and painted black they look the part. They are attached to very fine coated wires which go down the hollow square posts I use which I got off Shapeways.

Over the last few days I have been making the last two ground signals and getting some of the other to work. I gave up on lighting them all as they cannot be seen from the front of the layout. After I had taken the photos I realised I hadn't added the dummy counterweight/operating arms to some of the signals.

The one on the left has been refurbished and controls the exit from the carriage siding. It needs bedding in. The one on the right controls the exit from the MPD and again needs bedding in.

The last signal to go in was the one controlling the exit from the goods yard.

With that signal going in the board now has control of all 15 signals.

Thanks, Lez.

But wait a minute, I know the Midland wasn't averse to putting signals on the wrong side of the track to aid sighting but shouldn't that left-hand signal control the exit from the MPD and the one to the right be between the tracks to the left of the photo to control the carriage siding exit?

Ah, well done Wilson. I wondered when someone would spot that!

Yes, I have put the new signal in the wrong place, so that will be rectified today, all being well.

Proper order restored with shunt signals now in the right place. The right-hand one controlling the exit from the MPD and the repositioned left-hand one the exit from the carriage siding.

Modelling sessions in the last couple of days have been spent on providing a path for shed staff to the station. There was one at Buxton but not where I have placed it on Derwent. There are some photos in J M Bentley's book The Railway from Buxton et al" which show the path to the bank end steps but not to where, I believe, it joins the end of platform 3 . I thought it would make much more sense to make it go from the end on the main platform No 2.

This is the location I chose.

The static grass required cutting so the stepsDSCF7565.JPG.8b13e0b60df2ecbafabda2733c8b3bb3.JPG would sit properly and so I used these bought during lockdown!

The steps and railings come from two different signal box kits.

The walkway was made out of coffee stirrers which I cut to represent sleepers cut in two.

DSCF7569.JPG.108b2b121f0ad9fbbc0fb631678ca181.JPG

The walkway was finished with Sleeper Grime matt paint which was still wet when the photos were taken.

I now need a warning sign at the end of the platform and a nice Midland gas lamp at the top of the steps.

Warning signs have been made for the opposite ends of the walkway. I could not find one suitable for the platform end as most had "Cross using the footbridge" on them, so I made my own and mounted it on BH rail.

I found a blue-backed sign on a Sankey Scenics' sheet "Beware of Trains" for the shed side as I guess the LMS would not have replaced that one.

The area to the south of the shed head-shunt was flocked and grassed today. A layer of spring green flock was first applied with PVA and vacuumed off once dry. I used cheap hair spray as a layering glue on to which was put some 4mm spring grass then a layer of 6mm dead grass to be different from, but to blend in with the bank.

Just needs some sort of a fence now.
