Morning Jonathan,

Loving the work you are doing on Derwent Spa.

Have you seen the way the glass canopy glazing bars have been done on Leeds City, The Midland Side?

Regards

Andy

Hi Andy, thanks for the suggestion. No silhouette cutter I'm afraid, so I think it will be Slaters' black micro strip. Order gone in this afternoon.

Not much done today due to domestic duties. What I did achieve was covering half of the smoke vent with slates. The vent didn't reach the gable wall. I'm fairly sure Buxton's was glazed, but I didn't fancy it. Strips of black Plastikard form the roof of the vent before slates are added. Hopefully it's the other half tomorrow, then to work on building louvers.

Further to my comment about Buxton's smoke vent roof I found a photo in one of my books which shows it wasn't glazed after all. I'm not sure what the covering was - slate or some other material.

In a break from station building, I built the remaining 3 Midland standard buffer-stops I had in stock by @davefrk of Lanarkshire Models for the end of platform 3, the carriage siding and the goods shed siding. I managed to get the first two in place before close of play today.

I'd forgotten to paint the nearer extra bit of track rails and sleepers before gluing it down and the planks need painting faded red - jobs for tomorrow. I need to find some Midland fencing as well to stop folks on Station Road from wandering onto the railway.

My railway room has a window which is as wide as the room itself and faces south-east. Although there's a blind, sunlight has affected some modelling. The goods shed has particularly suffered. Here's the side facing the window,

then the side facing away.

To combat this I bought a length of self-adhesive clear film which is supposed to cut out the uV that causes the problem. Time will tell.

On the modelling side a fence has been erected to stop trespassing from Station Road.

The third buffer stop is now at the end of the goods shed siding.

Finally the roof apex at the gable end has been slated.

Having been wrapped up in my own stuff it’s a real pleasure to take a break to catch up with your posts

Fantastic work as always :good:

Thanks, Chris. To reciprocate I've been admiring your skills in reproducing goods vehicles which are unobtainable RTR.

Not much done today due to a trip to Kendal to collect a couple of new garden machines which were ordered online. The fencing guys have been back and now livestock cannot access the bay platform.

It's starting to come together really well now Jonathan.

Regards Lez.

Thanks, Lez. Looking at that last photo, I think the station building could do with a canopy over the door on the road side elevation to keep the punters dry.

Hi Al, something like that although Buxton had an awning type, being a bigger station and I've only one column left and no, I'm not going to scratch build any.

I managed to ballast all the gaps between the platform walls and the track edges. As the plastic bits from Slaters have not arrived yet, I got out some detailing stuff. One of the bought cows was painted white then dry brushed with a dark grey to represent a Blue Albion, quite popular in the 1930s, one won in Bakewell Show in the 20s, but quite rare now.

Here's my version - no laughing at the back. I've another one drying.

Then the goods yard had some goods put in it. Must get some humans painted next.

I am sure you can have it well done if you ask them nicely...

Nice bit of research to find a period correct cow! It's something that a lot of people wouldn't know about. The black and white Friesian cow that we are all familiar with is a German breed which was popularised after World War 2 because of its high milk yeild.

Not much done today due to sussing out suitable seaside places to take grandson (4) next week when he comes to stay for 3 nights.

Daisy has found a companion though.

The Slaters stuff arrived and the first section of glazing has been fitted to the trainshed roof.

There's a glazing bar to go across the middle when the next section goes in.

The louvers in the smoke vent have proved problematic. I tried plastic strip first but it didn't look right. I settled on card: 10mm X 0.75mm sandwiched between 4 x 2mm stuff. It needs painting but doesn't look too bad. I'd upload a photo but the broadband here is on a go very slow.
