Nearholmer
Years ago, a friend of mine added shallow exterior boxes to his shed to accommodate storage loops - they even had hinged lids to allow track-cleaning. It worked very well as a way of “sending trains to Bath” (it was an S&D inspired layout) during an operating session.

I do hope you don't mean that when the weather was wet the trains got wet!

I'd like to use a similar idea, but need to use a minimum 24" radius which needs a 5' x 5' blob at least... ideally I would use a minimum 30" radius which would require another shed entirely! I've just realised that I've missed the totally obvious. The track is Peco Streamline so all I need to do is to work out two points 90 degrees apart, count the sleepers to get the length and the radius will be L x 2/pi simples! Thanks for posting these pictures, what a cracking layout and it really is an ingenious fiddle yard! Does anyone have any more info on this layout? I've googled it and seem some more pictures, would like to know what sort of radius was used for the loop? Looks around 18"? Nearholmer
It was up for sale when exhibited at Stevenage, so maybe you could buy it from him.
Dr Gerbil-Fritters
I have been building a 'Majories' for a while... it's like a Minories, only bigger.

Thanks for the info, I've no interest in buying it though, if I did I'd have to change it to suit my sphere of interest, it'd ruin it completely

It was sold a week or so after the Stevenage CMRS show in January and the new owner's photos of it are a lot better than mine https://www.flickr.com/photos/165755585@N05/albums/72157712800173318 The layout is 7ft long 40 inches wide at the wide end and 18 inches at the narrow. The hidden curve to the fiddle yard headshunt is R1 Settrack which he describes as "interesting" with scale couplings. A slightly better shot showing all the turnouts. A classic urban small terminus. Based on New Brighton and currently host to an unlikely assemblage of mismatched rolling stock. I spent some of today doodling up plans for a more modern version using 1st/2nd Gen DMU's with a parcels depot and freight terminal in 10ft 6in, using 2nd radius set-track curves. More planning me thinks
EL-3A
Just for info the return loop to the hidden sidings on Aerodrome Park is alternate R1/R2 setback curves. Peter N

jcm@gwr
I also saw it at Stevenage, nearly got to play with it (I was stewarding, and it would have been for the operators lunchbreak). But, unfortunately, he's put the 3rd rail in the wrong place!

Peter N Thanks Peter It was the new owner who thought it was all R1 so I'm grateful for the clarification. There was a trackplan in the Stevenage show guide but my copy is hiding. Beautifully realised layout and a great exploration of art deco architecture (My local Tesco is the Hoover Building) Best wishes David

Peter North
Just for the record I am no longer the owner of Aerodrome Park. However I was intrigued by the comment made with such authority that I had "unfortunately got the third rail wrong". This may be 3rd rail next to the platform but several examples have existed e.g. as at Wye and the siding platform at Chatham before the Kent Coast electrification. If I was looking to take pleasure in pointing out errors (as some, nobody in particular, people clearly seem to do ....) the position of one of the two home signals isn't right - something I learnt from a helpful and structured comment as part of a polite discussion. Best regards to all, EL-3A 1
