Would seem that America now has its own 'Wild Rover'. (I, of course, have no affiliation or interests within the magazine)

Hmm. Is it named after the traditional folk song like mine?

Also decided to throw together a luggage van for the same rake out of some broken Ratio bits.

As you can also see in the photo, the first of the locos are out of storage, namely the familiar faces of Mastodon and Geoffrey Lake.

Restarting my unfinished projects on earnest now since I've got most of my stuff back. First off is finally finishing the Garratt.

The tender is mostly done, made from bits of Triang B12 tender and some plasticard.

Next up is the frame for the boiler and cab, which will hopefully be made from the base of this knackered Triang coach.

11 months and multiple contributions by you guys later, Tortoise the Berkham Works Garratt is finally coming together.

_20191121_100434.JPG.6e31de0651768ce561f28418024a42c2.JPG

The cab is that of the former No.12 combined with a spare Airfix Pug one I had knocking around, the tender is aforementioned, the front tank is plasticard with the fittings from the same butchered tender attached to it, boiler frame comes from a broken Airfix Small Prairie shell I had knocking around with some gubbins from a tanker kit attached to the underside to bulk it out a bit and some thin brass rods for strength. The tender also has a crate and a shovel on it courtesy of one of my Warhammer 40k kits. Still needs stuff like handrails, safety valves, a smokebox door and some other odds and ends. Corbs, you're the expert here. Looking any good?

So great to see this project progressing again!

Gary

Thanks Gary. It's about time to be fair, and now I have my new workbench, all my materials and my tools I actually can finish the project that's been taunting me since January.

What a great project that Garrat is. Great stuff.

Thank you very much James. Still very much a work in progress (and I'm also not sure I have a smokebox door that'll fit).

Also I just saw that Nile liked my Garratt. My day is now complete.

The Garratt is now undercoated. Not sure what colour the works loco livery should be, as I want it to look noticeably different but still be recognisable as a KLR locomotive. Thoughts, anyone?

Also this is my 2000th overall RMWeb post. Hmm. To celebrate then, let me reveal that Bulldog is now fully lined. It only took me what, nearly two years?

Looking good with some paint on it. How about Elephant as a name?

The fact that you're even paying attention to my stuff is kind of awesome. Thank you :)
The KLR's locomotives are mostly named after East Anglian folklore and history, so not really helpful. Thanks anyway.

Are those handrails copper, or tinned copper wire?

They're offcuts of tinned copper wire taken from the bins at work.

If you slightly stretch the wire before forming the handrails you'll find it a lot easier to get them straight.  I used to use tinned copper wire for handrails as well since it looks right to represent handrails that have seen some use, but are in good condition.
