Ok, just picked up an Airfix Pug kit, half built, from a junk shop down the road. Anyone have any ideas a) what I can do with it, and b) how to motorise it if I do?

High-Level chassis kit?

Reinforce the plastic chassis with extra plastic bracing and fit it with a small folding gearbox and small motor and metal wheels and axle top hat bearings ?

Assemble it and paint it as a stationary rusting wreck or being worked on mini scenario?

Cheat! Stick it on a Tenshodo or Black Beetle ready to run motor bogie, I’ve done this with a Tenshodo it fits underneath just right.

Unmotorised, cut down cab from an Airfix austerity 0-6-0 kit, scratch bunker sides forward of the cab, the top of the fire box is the original cut away from the spectacle plate which was then refitted a few millimetres back. It will be a rusty wreck scrap yard static model until or if I find a Tenshodo or other motor bogie.

Tenshodo fitted Airfix pug, cut-down cab, the plastic valve gear is worked from the rear wheel only and hides the fact there is no coupling rod to see, both wheels driven internally. The saddle tank is full of lead which makes it overall quite controllable and pulls a surprising large train.

Hmm. Definitely something to mull over.

Decided to give my old Triang blood and custard set a repaint to look a bit more unique and cover up some of the imperfections. I think the emerald and magnolia works well together, don't you?

That looks very tasteful

OK, returning to the Airfix kit.

I have the gears, wheels and motor from that Fleischmann tank I bought with Martin that I... well, that I broke. I have some bearings for it too... somewhere. Anyway, this motor is tiny so I really think it'll be small enough. Now to test my soldering skills.

The Airfix tank now has a chassis. The wheels I ended up with were the leftover one from when I rewheeled Peter, with a cog from a Hornby Toby chassis and some reinforcing pieces from the Fleischmann tank. I currently have some metal rods and crankpins coming through the post for it, but right now I'll need to focus on the body shell.

The Airfix tank is on the back burner now as I have no idea where I'm going with it.

In other news, I made a trip to Great Eastern Model Railways yesterday for the first time this year. Bought some odds and ends, including two Lima GUVs (one bogey, one four-wheel). I just painted the bogey one up to match my green and cream Mk1s.

Been some big changes in the KLR roster.

First up, here's the new No.2 Wild Rover, a Hornby B12/3 courtesy of @Skinnylinny.

Have thought about turning it into a B12/1 but I've pretty much decided to keep it as it and just paint it into KLR lined green. I will however be adding the valances from the B12/1 that Linny laser cut for me as I like them and it's not totally outside of the realm of possibility for a B12 in preservation to have them reattached.

Meanwhile, the original Wild Rover, which I've never been totally happy with, has gradually evolved over the past few days into something akin to an LNER J17. It'll now be No.21, and not sure on the name just yet.

(Sorry about the quality of the last photo, the focus decided it didn't want to cooperate.)

Don't have a chimney for it at the moment though, but baby steps. And it's tender drive, but that's what I had to hand.

I really need to update this more regularly.

So, following a tipoff from @BlueLightning I now have a HD MkI horsebox to go with the KLR's express coaches for use on race days.

At the moment it's dismantled for undercoating but the question I have is do I do it in just olive or add the magnolia stripe?

KLR No.1 now has a successor, after the motor in the original burnt out completely.

Bulldog V2 is a small Peckett side tank inspired by the KESR's Marcia (and also one of the creations of my good friend @TurboSnail), and was made from a Dapol Pug and a Hornby 101, with a boiler made from wooden dowel and a brass chimney.

Phew. Been a while since I did a proper update.

First off, an introduction of a new member of the fleet.

Meet No.22, a Highland Railway Class X given to me by my good friend @Lancaster622. This will be the new banker based at Kelsby.

In bigger news:

:D I, like another good friend of mine @BlueLightning, have joined the esteemed ranks of the 3D printers.
