This time of year Dan is ussually preparing stock for the Telford 'O' Gauge exhibition, so would not expect a new 4mm list until after this show. But I hope to be proved wrong as there is quite a bit of stuff I wish to order from what I understand the next list will cover.

No, I meant EHertsGER's fire sale list of the kits he's now liquidating.

After a long period of reflection I have come to the realisation that the ‘grand scheme’ for which I have been collecting for the last few decades, is not likely to happen. Business interests, other interests, priorities and dodgy eyesight have all contributed to this. Rather than let these kits languish in a box, I am ‘releasing’ them to those who will actually find a use for them.

First up will be the ‘D&S Collection’ assembled over many years, but most recently through private commissions from Danny. Thus, most of these kits - wagons, non-passenger rolling stock and coaches alike - are unopened and unstarted. Where a kit is an older kit, it may have been opened, but has not been started (I will list the half-started stuff on Ebay right at the end with all the other junk!)

So, to the kits: mostly GER kits, some LNER and a few others. Anything specific (GER) you want, let me know and I’ll price it; payment by PayPal and free shipping from NY. In summary; most of the cast wagons in multiple, as are the four, six and bogie coaches, NPCS and odds and ends (W&U, one only push-pull set) and so on. This is not a profiteering exercise, but a major change in direction.

Andy; if this is blatant commercialism of the worst kind, please let me know and I shall remove this. However, I put it here to give RMWebbers a ‘heads-up’ before the riff-raff of Ebay got into the fight...

This is likely to yield quite a bit of cash (I know the GER D&S market as I have been an active combatant for years - I am not giving this stuff away, so market prices) so I have also elected to donate a portion of it to a cause or two, preferably of the medical kind (your cat can manage, I am sure...). Any suggestions, please let me know.

For now, check Ebay listings under ‘D&S’, but I will get a revised list out at the weekend. Anything specific, please PM me.

My apologies - ‘life’ having got in the way a bit.

Best,

Marcus

Hi All.

Can anybody advise if Dan is still at the address he used to put on his kits, i.e. 46 The Street.

I have dropped him a line with an sae, but so far not received a reply.

Perhaps you could message me with an updated address if he has one.

Many thanks

Ray

Does anyone know if all or some of the range has been sold on to other companies? I have a particular interest in The GN 6-wheel coach range that Dan did. Any update will be welcome.

Thanks,

Tod

Dan has not sold the etched coach range on, he was still issuing lists a couple of times a year up to 2 years ago but has family commitments that preclude this at present.

The whitemetal wagon range went to ABS some years ago and some of the other brakes etc went to London Road Models and are available.

Hopefully some of the ex GN wagon range will reappear with someone now Adrian isn't with us anymore, (I was unable to obtain it a couple of years ago)

Thanks for the quick update, I live in hope that I can get  hold of the brake 3rd or full brake 6 wheelers to compliment the milk/luggage van. I can kick myself for not getting the kits at the time I bought the van! One of my life's big regrets, well on the modelling front at least! I may just have to go with Hattons  generic offerings when they become available. Not quite pure GN though?

Andrew at WM Collectables has a considerable number of unbuilt D&S coach kits available at present, from a huge collection of kits he purchased.   Try this link to a 6 wheel GNR full brake:

Is that what you're after?

I'm not connected to WM Collectables in any way, other than being a customer who's spent a lot of money with him recently!

Probably the most expensive list of kits yet seen.  If someone starts producing some of these kits again he may be looking for any sort of deal. An example.. he is charging more for Slaters wagon kits than you can buy them from Slaters.

His pricing is erratic - at Warley I paid less for two NER kits in the one box than he was selling a single GER kit for.

Speaking from my own experiences, I checked prices beforehand and was very satisfied that the discontinued rolling stock kits I bought from him were at prices directly comparable with currently available similar products, when actually I expected to see rather higher prices because they were no longer available from the manufacturers.  The loco kits I bought from him, most of which are still available from the manufacturers, were considerably cheaper than current market prices.

Because of this, I was genuinely a bit surprised to see your responses to my previous post.  Please understand that by saying so I'm not disputing your comments, not at all.  However, I would say if you find his price too steep or downright wrong on a particular item or items (as you've pointed out with the Slaters kits) then tell him so and make him an offer.  In my estimation he's not greedy, he's very affable to deal with, certainly capable of admitting to a pricing error and quite willing to barter - as I've seen him do on numerous occasions at shows for several years.

On the last list (?) from Dan the D265 & D268 were £25 + P&P.   £55 is a bit steep but if he's willing to haggle it's worth a try.

I Produce my own in small numbers (it's an extension of the stock I want for myself) and the price would probably be around £25 for a 6 wheeler, and that would be without castings.

He's practically giving away the Phoenix coach kits @£17:50 a throw!

The kits he's got left that is ;)

Hi Tod.

Danny still produces small quantities of kits from time to time, or may have a few in stock.

If you drop him a line at the address shown on the kit instructions, he still lives there, he may be able to help you.

It may also be possible that some of the whitemetal wagon kits become available again as Adrian Swain's collection of kits is dispersed. This will not however happen until after the lock down is rescinded.

All the best

Ray

Thanks to you all for the updates, at least I can get one now, hopefully despite the price being a bit higher than I thought. Such is life, hey ho, I must bite the bullet, being in my senior years, I can't hang about too long!!

Exactly, if I want something I don't mind paying for it.  I don't mind paying over the odds to get it either.  This is a relatively new thing for me but I am so much happier for it.

Of course I've had my fair share of bargains, two just the other day from the guy selling expensive kits back up there, and I'll probably have them in my hands tomorrow (and a pile of sticky mess by teatime).

Swings and roundabouts, life's too short, roll a fat one...

The wagon prices are simply daft. But then there are plenty of daft people , who pay similar prices on ebay .

I've known Andrew at WM Collectables for a few years now.  Up until a year or so ago, all his business was in old collectable-condition Triang and Hornby Dublo etc. with a little bit of modern Hornby mixed in.  Then he got the opportunity to purchase this huge collection of mainly unbuilt kits (and I mean huge - full polybins up to the ceiling filling a large room).  Andrew has no real background in dealing with this sort of stuff, other than the occasional dabble with a few items.  As a result, he doesn't have the benefit of years of knowledge of the marketplace, or a library of back catalogues and price lists, to work out reasonable current values of the kits.  Basically all he has is (to generalise the description) a handful of 'cottage industry' websites that sometimes aren't easy to find if you don't know where to look, plus the circling sharks on eBay and a few other similar sites.

I know from conversations with him that he's invested a very great deal of time in trying to research prices but, dealing with such a big quantity and variety of kits he can't afford to do exhaustive research on each and every item.  He needs to get the stuff out in the market and start getting his investment back.  Nor can he afford to employ people to do the research with him or for him; he's a sole trader and this is his livelihood.  Sometimes he's got prices spot on.  Sometimes he's got prices too cheap (well done Tim, I hope you're happy with them).  Sometimes (particularly in instances where he's relied on eBay for guidance, as you alluded to, Mick) he's got prices too expensive.  Sometimes way too expensive - being reasonable, you would expect to pay something of a premium for product that is otherwise no longer generally available, but I'll admit I looked at the ABS wagon listings after you mentioned them, Mick, and I winced too.

But I'll say it again: he's not greedy, he's very affable to deal with.  He's not a masked bandit,  he's a sole trader who's all of a sudden got a lot of stuff to sell (including a lot of stuff that many of us would like a second chance to buy again) that's a little bit out of the ordinary for him and if you approach him in the same pleasant way that he'll always approach you, then I am sure he'll take reasoned guidance on some of his pricing.

And after all that tub thumping for Andrew's benefit, I feel the need to say again that I have no connection with WM Collectables other than as a fairly regular modern Hornby customer, usually at the Sandown Park toy fairs, for some years.  Furthermore, more recently I've taken the opportunity to buy (quite a lot of!) things from him that I've been kicking myself for years for not having bought when they were originally available - and I've bought them at, I believe, fair and reasonable prices.  And I'm absolutely delighted with them.

Thanks, I'm sure I will thoroughly enjoy destroying them into something resembling what they're supposed to look like.

Andrew at WM Collectables is now on my approved suppliers list for future hard to find items.  If I see, for example, a BSL/Phoenix kit I want on eBay then I'll whack a £30 bid on it and that's my max.   The advantage I see from dealing with this supplier is that you can just buy it and not go into a bidding war.

Cheers
