There is a picture of it passing Reading depot in 1971. Blue livery, 1st coach looks like Mk2 BCK, heading towards Paddington. Another around the same time shows it stabled at Ranleigh Bridge with the reporting number 1B02.

I dont think there was a mark 2 BCK?

As built, there were no Mark 2 composites of any description, although some corridor firsts were converted to composite later. As for brakes, there were as built brake firsts for Mark 2, 2a, 2b, 2c and 2d and brake second opens for all variants except Mark 2b. What you see in the image is one of the 30 Mark 2c BSOs that went to the WR.

Really interesting news about that Paignton diagram. Presume this was a cross country run or just a relief from Bristol? Either way, expands our knowledge of 1200’s passenger work, so thanks.

Would love to see anypics of Falcon at Stratford for tyre turning but doubt it’s on film!!

Robert Carroll's Yahoo group has a few sightings from 1971. I think this is a Bristol working :

Why on earth on such a premium route did they stick a Mk1 FO in the rakes rather than another Mk2 FK?

Edit: silly question... just realised it would have been to provide restaurant seating.

I have Falcon logged at Southall on 24 7 72,no doubt on one of it's regular Bristol/Paddington/Bristol diagrams. That is my last record of it in the area.

I also have it logged on 23 8 72,while on a "Merrymaker" from Ealing Broadway to Barry Island and return, and referring to some of the previous posts,it may well have moved to South Wales by then.

The CWN states that the FO vehicles adjacent to the Restaurant / Buffet vehicles were also 'declassified'

Loco was used at Ebbw Jc after xfer Canton 10/72, mostly on unfitted iron ore traffic Newport A.D. to Llanwern, 35ton 9'wb hoppers, turn and about with double headed 24s, but also Ebbw Vale jobs.  I believe the steam heating boiler was removed by this time.

Are you sure Mr. W ?

.

The Iron Ore hoppers used from Newport to Ebbw Vale and Llanwern were vacuum fitted.

.

I never saw it work Iron Ore, and have yet to see any photos of it so employed.

.

It was used almost (but not exclusively) always on Ebbw's "E61" diagram, which worked off ADJ serving the numerous industries and private sidings along the Uskmouth Branch such as Stewarts & Lloyds, Orb Works, Monsanto, British Aluminium etc.

.

It's diagram did, if required, take it 02:25 ADJ - Spencer Works then 04:00 Spencer Works - ADJ, engine and van.
