I always thought that it was odd that a firm with Jewish origins chose to brand its goods with a christian saint.

St Michael was an Angel from the Old Testament, so he was originally Jewish before beoming part of Christianity (and later still Islam).

 

I suspect his involvement with M&S is down to the marketing people rather than any religous conviction.

I got the date of the first model railway book five years late, it was 1906.
