Who, exactly, does @Annie think she's winding up?

Most probably me Stephen.

Point of information: they were named for the aery spirit in The Tempest.

Ah yes I forgot that one, - thank you for reminding me.  BUT Ariel is also the name of an archangel, the ancient city of Jerusalem, various songs, poems, ships and goodness knows what else.

I thought the Archangel was called 'Uriel' but perhaps that another one.  Do Archangels also dance on pins, like ordinary angels?

The whole angels-on-a-pinhead thing was a medieval way of concretising an abstract mathematical problem: how many entities of infinitesimal dimensions can be fitted into an infinitesimally small space? In other words, what to you get when you divide zero by zero?

I suppose being archangels they'd be better at it than ordinary angels.

My apologies for slicing you through the footbridge with this video.  I'm still working on getting the low speed end of the sound file sorted out, but at least now I have the sound matched (more or less) with the engine's speed.

Major triumph and cleverness certificate award to me though for figuring out how to wind up the mainspring at station stops aided by nothing more than the magical incantations in a configuration file.

Hurrah!

A clockwork Precursor tanks (with DCC sound!).

To celebrate ...

A classic, an absolute classic!  Thanks very much for giving me a good laugh this morning James.

I did some other small adjustments to the sound file for the Precursor tank and after reaching a point where I was starting to make things worse I went back to an earlier copy of the file and decided to leave things there for now.

Book Corner:

Seeing as that I'm messing around with Precursors at the moment I've ordered a second hand copy from Abebooks.  It's always interesting buying second hand books from the Uk as some vendors often seem to think they have a rare gold leaf edition and charge accordingly while others are much more sensible about it.

I bought a new copy many years ago when they were being remaindered and it was only when I got it home that I realised that a batch of pages were completely blank.  I hope yours is complete.  There are conflicting forces at work here, D&C of this era were pretty good but OS Nock needed a good editor but didn't always get one.

I purchased a second hand copy Adam and the vendor says the book is in good condition so it should have all its pages.  I have heard it said that this particular book isn't as good as it could have been, but compared with having no book on the Precursors at all it has to be a better situation than that.

More mucking about with the 'clockwork' Precursor tank.  I think I'm going to call the sound file done since not knowing what I'm doing can only be stretched so far.  A bit like some politicians I suppose except they don't know when to stop.

Possibly having too much fun  :)

For the name to be used for a species of laundry detergent only goes to prove how low modern civilisation has fallen.

I'll show you the dreadful memories from my childhood that come back every time someone mentions the name 'Ariel'.

Before you have seen this, you cannot fully understand how right Annie is with her statement.

This creature of hell ('Klementine') wasn't a one-off joke, she kept on haunting German television for 2 decades.

Watch with caution, this is not for the faint of heart. :mosking:  & if you don't understand a single word (because it's in German language), don't worry, you are missing nothing. :D

You would think that not being able to understand a word of that would be a blessing, - only it wasn't.  :scared:

This is my latest rebuild/update effort with an older locomotive for Trainz.  I'd done some work on it a month or two ago and then after finding something shiny for some reason or another I put it to one side and forgot about it.  The final work needing to be done was mostly finishing off the loco body textures and after frowning at it a lot I've managed to do that.

I'm running out of siding space in my virtual railway room so I'm going to have to put some more in.  Is this the beginning of 'The Chronicles of Annie's Sidings'?

Additional sidings now installed at Carpeton.  The 'ladder' format means it will be reasonably easy to add further sidings should I need to.

Once I started looking at the engines and rolling stock I had in my virtual railway room I found a few with 'Test' in their file names that had served their purpose so they could be removed and that made for a bit more space.

Book Corner.

I used to own a copy of this book, but it got lost when too much life happened all at once.  However after much searching I found a copy (Oh joy unbounded!).  It's a decidedly rare book these days and it's hard to find a copy in any sort of condition.  I suppose as a title it wasn't exactly a best seller either since extreme electrical tinkering with clockwork 'O' gauge railways would have been somewhat of a specialist interest back in 1951.

It's a fascinating little book with all manner of clever ideas for making electrical and semi-electrical accessories for clockwork railways and it's plain the author was very keen on devising gadgets of one sort or another.  The other nice thing about this little book is that it was written in a time when enthusiasts actually made things from raw materials with no nipping down to shops to buy something all packaged up and ready to go.

An era that is to railway modelling what pre-grouping was to railways.
