Afternoon everybody,

hope everyone had a nice Christmas?   Wondered if you might appreciate a few images of 33056, now arrived on a shed somewhere near Lincoln, that far, far-flung outpost of the Southern (South Western Division, obviously...)   :jester:  Here goes - please excuse the quality of the images:

I am well pleased with it, especially the choice of Waterloo-Exeter and Bristol-Pompey headcodes, already fitted.  A brief whizz on the rolling road suggests it runs as sweetly as the rest of my Crompton fleet: I am hoping that the holiday season may enable me to put the boards up for a few days and take some proper snaps.  A little judicious weathering and some etched plates in due course should finish it off nicely, though I recall that whenever I saw either '056 or indeed '027 they were usually fairly clean (though perhaps that is just my rose-tinted specs!)

Enjoy the remaining 10 ten days of Christmas and a happy New Year to all!

Paul

My Burma Star finally arrived and confirms my belief of the best diesel model ever ;-)

I have 4 of the 2nd tooling Heljan 33/0s, all 4 being locomotives I actually saw. Burma Star I saw on an almost weekly basis in this livery resting at Gillingham Kent. When Rail Exclusives announced 33056 in triple grey as part of a pair, I instantly ordered her with sound fitting, that fell to dust but several years later, I have her in the colours I prefer and remember her in the most.

Lima have done her previously here, so the first pics compare (!) the two.

To avoid snipping off pipe work, I fitted on one end a buckeye coupling. I have a few vehicles to converted with buckeye coupling at one end and a tension lock at the other to act as convertor vehicles between loco and train.

Compared to the previous batch of new tooling 33s one part is left off the bogies (the white part on the bogie of the plain blue below). This is in the bits bag.

Burma Star had snow ploughs fitted in this livery. Heljan supply these in the bits bag. Fitting requires removing the New socket though. The ploughs are chunky and I will probably source an after market etched version. This will happen when sound conversion will be done.

Here she is with her first train. Photographs show her pulling interesting formations in the real world. Including the Devon belle. Running qualities on these models is very good. No wonder I have 7 of them (4 33/0 2nd gen tooling, 1 1st gen 33/0 tooling, 1 33/1, 133/2).

Ive just gotten a Burna Star too,

As a kid i spent two weeks every summer in the Wiltshire area, 33056 seemed to be a regular around the Bristol / Trowbridge/Westbury area in the mid 1980’s.

33008 used to get me excited when it occasionally showed up too.

Burma Star looks great, certainly tempting! 33114 arrived for me just after Christmas and is superb. These models are certainly a mark up on the original releases and for me all the buffer beam detail being already fitted is a plus, saves a tedious job.

Pleasing also that Heljan corrected the bogie tooling to give more depth on the bit in the middle (don't know what it's called)

I'm up to 7 now, probably 8 when I give in to 33056! Help!

That is interesting. I am glad they are using the new bogie sides on the older toolings. I have an original 33114 and brought a load of new tooling 33 spares a few years back with a view to upgrading it. Yet to find the time though.

I have also given into the the temptation of purchasing The Burma Star!

I used to live near Selhurst Depot and often saw and heard the real machine as a youngster. I’m now modelling a WCML layout and have been good so far sticking to WCML stock and loco’s, but agree with some of the comments in this thread .... that Burma Star looks great in this livery, and Heljan have produced a lovely model of her.

Here she is during running-in ... runs really smooth so far and a decent weight for haulage, very pleased.post-10765-0-00991100-1546698268_thumb.jpeg

Looking at the original 33114, that of course uses the old bogie details (I have sprews of the original and latest tooling bogie details), I note the following additional observations compared with the new release.

1/ various plugs are picked in Orange on the new.

2/ the original came fitted with the side ploughs not supplied as parts on any 33 I own. Both old and new toolings have only the full set of ploughs (sides and middle as one piece) supplied in the bits bag however. Plough tooling also changed between the old and new, the new being a tad bigger.

Bit of a pain as the full ploughs gives you a choice plough and no NEM socket or no plough.

On Burma Star, I want to add the full plough one end (supplied) and use partial plough on the other end. But that is not supplied unlike the old 33114 and I do feel the loco will look odd with just ploughs on one end. I wonder if someone does after market parts here?

Below a pic of my old 33114 showing partial ploughs and tension lock fitted:

Must have fallen off a Cardiff-Crewe at the top end of the route for a few days?!  :jester:

33056 now seems out of stock everywhere, a certain box shifter tells me they will be getting a limited supply shortly but after that that's it. 33114 is now confirmed as sold out.

Still available according to website at Arcadia Shaw {£119) 01706 882900

Thanks, my preorder was cancelled as I was given dud information, so looks like a very limited run of these releases. Luckily I was able to panic buy from another retailer, saving myself a huge 45p in the process!

Also tempted by the Model Rail edition of D6510 with a view to doing 33008 in its late 80s condition, but looks a fair bit of work required to the roof. Hopefully Heljan will re-release on the new tooling.

Yep, quite a lot to do it seems. Aside from the exhaust arrangements and it's panels, there are also the latches to add on other panels.

My Heljan class 33 '33111' has arrived from Hattons and I am very impressed with it. The blue colour looks darker than the prototype.

I have not tested it but I am looking forward to running it with some fairly authentic Swanage Railway trains. The Swanage Railway often uses it with crimson and cream Mk1 coaches on the Wessex Belle Bistro.

Well, Just got both 33/0's today from Arcadia and Hattons.

Burma Star and Civil Engineers Dutch livery respectively. In am absolutely delighted with both models and the service from both Arcadia and Hattons. They are a superb model and particularly so the Burma Star.

Top job Heljan
