The Metcalfe Factory gates get a twist, some additional stone capping and detailing and a side door and OK yeah I will touch up the visible card edges with paint How the complete factory will sit within the diorama box ... Some work to add interest to the roofs with styrene capping stones and some individual tiles ... This has to be one of the best mods to a Metcalfe kit I have seen so far. Brilliant! I can't claim this as my own idea as it was largely inspired by an article fromChris Nevard that used the gatehouse kit from Metcalfe. Thanks Corbs, that's great feedback - you're right it doesn't look like much from above! Your stone setts recipe seems to be - lay thick card outside and abutting the sleepers - coat everything in modelling clay - carve into setts when dry - paint and weather. Is that about it? This is the first attempt at setting track into cobbles / setts but it worked OK. One thing I found helpful was to develop a rolling technique that means I can lay strips of clay at the right sort of depth. It just involved using a bit of dowel as a rolling pin and a palette knife / scraper to cut the soft clay. The trick was to lay an appropriate thickness of card either side of the piece of clay and let that regulate the depth of the clay sheet. Keep the substrate damp (squirt with any squirty-water device that comes to hand) . oh and a brush with PVA also helps adhesion. 1 7 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
