Popular Post brylonscamel
I haven't updated little Caledonian Basin as I've been engaged in making progress with my father's layout 'Braeside'. I'll have to run them side-by-side over the coming months as I've accepted a couple of invitations to model railway exhibitions. I'm thrilled! The plan was always to make this diorama portable and see if there was interest in taking it out-and-about. Turns out there is some interest and will hopefully be making trips to Cardiff and Utrecht in the New Year. I'll keep you posted on progress. There's much to sort. To review where I am with the diorama, here's the current wide view of the layout. Martin S-C
Hardly my place to cast any observations suggesting anything is lacking but the extreme RH end of the factory building just to the left of the loco looks like it could use some kind of finishing off structural element like another end wall buttress or something. My thoughts too! I'm thinking about making a fully scratchbuit factory / mill / warehouse and donating the Metcalfe to my father's layout.

brylonscamel
By comparison to the tiny Hornby Peckett, I picked up a Minerva Peckett in O gauge - I just wanted one without a realistic plan for making a layout! It has been a fun thing to start weathering and may yet find a little diorama layout as home.
brylonscamel
In the spirit of the festive season, here's Caledonian Basin with a dusting of baking powder - sorry! I mean SNOW ... Lately, my father's layout has consumed me but I will be back on it next year, get it properly operational and fleshed out with more details and home-made buildings. Your comments, feedback and suggestions are always welcome. Much-needed changes were made early on after some honest feedback from RMWeb members and I remain very grateful of the input. The subsequent model was so much better and I really enjoyed the new direction. 13

Popular Post brylonscamel
After a hiatus, small progess is made on 'the little layout'! The plan is to get cracking soon with Caledonian Basin as I have already failed to get it ready for a first season of model exhibitions. In this vein I'm trying to run some modelling projects alongside the stuff I'm committed to with my father's layout. Here we get some loco weathering, naming the Peckett, distillery wagon repaints and 'rusting' of the second barge. brylonscamel
Another loco gets some long-overdue attention - in this case it's one of the 'wee Sulzers' that I've started to weather and fettle. Any excuse to pop her onto the bridge to see how it's coming along ...
Popular Post brylonscamel
Max the Border Collie decides to test out the boards from Tim Horn as we reach an important little milestone - I have some trestles and the makings of some fiddle-yards. This enables a big step from diorama to a small operational layout. Small ripple of excitement here at home in Bristol!
brylonscamel
Well - this is exciting, it is now possible to bolt the extension boards to the box. With the aid of some makeshift viaducts (using spare timber bracing pieces from the baseboards) I can shuttle trains through the scene at Caledonian Basin.

jasp
I have only just come across this thread. The canal office and arches at Bowling basin coughs my eye - more than a little familiar! Great modelling, great atmosphere Jim P

Thanks Jim - I take it that Bowling harbour is nearby? I haven't visited the place yet but it seems like such an appealing location to model that I couldn't resist adding some of the features to my layout. As it's on a cycle path I'm very keen to go for an outing next time I'm in Scotland.
