RMweb Premium gc4946 Posted March 24, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 24, 2018 I'm surprised Dapol hasn't released them in their mainstream range. The initial batch offered by Rails represents examples in original condition, and reboilered A1X with short bunkers. Hopefully Isle of Wight variants will appear in a forthcoming production run.
RichardLong
Yes!! Nothing for me so far but as soon as they do some IOW variants I'll be reaching for my wallet . Hoping for some pre-grouping IOW liveries as well as the Southern versions...
Hroth
A small 0-6-0 in a plethora of liveries. Hattons P class must have stung.
phil gollin
. Ordered mine. £30 deposit on each loco - odd, but understandable, probably a sign of things to come. Delivery charge rather high (courier). The limited livery options IMPLIES more (MANY more) to come. .
RMweb Premium ianmaccormac Posted March 24, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 24, 2018 (edited) Well, brilliant news, although someone must have had some inside info for the recent posts about a 00 Terrier?? I just hope that they realise the front of side tank lubricators should not be there on the early models, the position of cab fittings needs sorting and that they get the step better than the 0 gauge version. Excellent news and I have ordered one already but am just doing transfers for Stroudley lining and lettering so may order another to rename. Numberplates in brass etch already available. RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted March 24, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 24, 2018 How nice. Looking forward to a release of the L&SWR pair in the future. In any event the early BR livery is a must have.....oh dear...! Rob.
NIK
Hi, The E-mail I've received from Rails mentions: 5 pole skew wound motor So it looks as though the motor will be of a modern standard too despite the small size of the loco. The DCC socket is going to be a NEXT-18 - don't know much about them but it may make sound fitting easier (dedicated speaker pins?). Can't see any mention of limited numbers per livery option which is encouraging to me although the deposit (option?) may counterbalance that. andrewwaite1
What I would really like are terriers with the extended Isle of Wight bunker. Edited March 24, 2018 by andrewwaite1
RichardLong
What I really want are terriers with the extended Isle of Wight bunker. What a disappointment! They haven't announced any yet but the description on the model says they've got tooling so for IOW variants as well

GreenGiraffe22
Firstly I said when Rails started doing commissions that perhaps they'll be the ones to finally bring us new Terriers and my comment was largely poo-pooed I think aha, secondly I find it kinda funny that they're announcing these while having a stall set up directly next to Hornby lol in their face much? Great news anyway! I shall have the SR one =)
Scottest
I have oft found myself puzzled by the apparent lack of serious r-t-r support for the railways of the IoW. (I selected those words with scrupulous care). One reason, I believe valid, is the lack of standardization of the rolling stock. Why bemoan a shortcoming of r-t-r locos, when there is even less choice for appropriate coaches. And so, little gets done. As it happens, circumstances have caused me to dispose of most of my hardware, and leave me an observer on the fringe of the hobby. So even if this new initiative should eventually lead to high quality support for the trains of the IoW, I doubt that my support could follow. However, I can still wish, and in my minds eye, at least, re create the vista once regularly available to a trainspotter at Newport station.
RMweb Gold BMacdermott Posted March 24, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 24, 2018 Congratulations to Rails on this highly anticipated announcement! The loco has been steadily climbing through the ranks of The Wishlist Poll and was in The Top 50 in the 2016 Results. (The Poll didn't run in 2017.) TurboSnail
Tempted by the SECR version, wondering if they're making different tooling for it, being neither an A1 or an A1x. Also hoping they don't do one in SECR grey as I already have one of those. Maybe this will mean Hornby finally move their version into the Railroad range? Would be nice to have a cheap small 0-6-0 chassis to mess about with...
RMweb Premium phil-b259 Posted March 24, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 24, 2018 Would be nice if we could have 'Stepney' (and 'Fenchurch') released at some stage to complement all the other Bluebell locos that have been done in RTR so far. After all Hattons have done the P tanks (and even allowed the Bluebell a small allocation of the relevant locos to sell themselves)

Butler Henderson
Given Dapols record on blundering with liveries and mechanisms I will not be pre ordering but waiting to see whether what turns up is actually worth the money.

andrewwaite1
Dapol have forgotten to add the condenser pipes on the model of 'Southern' 2644 going by this picture of the same locomotive at Havant in 1937. https://www.flickr.com/photos/swift-valley/4168843093/ Edited March 24, 2018 by andrewwaite1
RMweb Premium Neil Posted March 24, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 24, 2018 Excellent news; I'm hoping for a glut of cheap Hornby Terriers on ebay as I have a use for the chassis.
stonetown
The NRM describes their model of Boxhill to feature a gloss finish: http://www.locomotionmodels.com/ncim-coming-soon/dapolnrm-exclusive-lbscr-a1-class-terrier-0-6-0t.htm So apparently their Boxhills are going to be different from the ones available trough Rails or Dapol.
