sem34090
It was floated over in the pre-groupin forum that I set up a thread for my virtual terrier-bashes, so here goes: Some of these are repeated in different liveries, and some are not bashed at all: For those who do not know, the GSR (Great Southern Railway) was created by 'SkinnyLinny' of this parish, the LG&WR (Littlehampton, Goring & Worthing Railway) and W&SR (Wimbledon & Sutton Railway) were created by myself. sem34090
Since then, more liveries and locos have been done: Please note that the last three liveries were not done out of cruelty or a desire to harm terriers, as has been implied elsewhere. They were done to highlight the abhorrent nature of modern liveries.
RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted April 5, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 5, 2018 I can still hear them calling for the sweet relief of the scrappers torch!!! Gary
sem34090
It can be arranged. Those of a sensitive disposition are advised to not look upon the following horrors. They depict that most dire form of locomotive cruelty - the scrapping of Stroudley - Designed locomotives. Truly horrific and saddening sights that do not bear thinking about. One can but hope that this practice has all but vanished with regards to British locos, but one must bear in mind that this practice continues across the globe to this day. RMweb Gold BlueLightning Posted April 5, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 5, 2018 Still a better fate than ending up in Load Haul livery!!!! Gary
sem34090
I suppose so: at least these died nobly - still bearing their 'proper' livery... seems the photos were taken by the same bloke on the same day. Still, to see them in such a state... My avatar (Wonersh) was lucky enough to make it into BR ownership and was even the last terrier to ever be scrapped. Anyway... what shall be next on the virtual destruction bench?!

The three VoR 2-6-2Ts actually carried BR blue for about 15 years, and although the results were a bit dull and dowdy , they didn't look like an abomination. I think a much smaller "double-arrow" was used
sem34090
It was done very quickly in paint... Is this any better? With great apologies to Gary - I still think that it looks hideous myself.

LBSCR A1 (BR - 1).png A couple of shots of VoR locos in BR blue here: https://www.world-railways.co.uk/general-photo-161 and a whole variety of liveries : https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/route-proposal-vale-of-rheidol-railway.4170/

One can but hope that this practice has all but vanished with regards to British locos, but one must bear in mind that this practice continues across the globe to this day. It's not necessarily scrapped. The locomotive has been stripped down, and the frames are using 2 sets of wheels as accommodation space. To take out the centre pair involves stripping out the entire locomotive motion, so little wonder it all seems a bit sparse. Despite the apparent severity, it's quite a straightforward occurrence. Cheers, Ian.

We here at the KLR don't really do lining and at the moment don't do lettering. Edited April 7, 2018 by RedGemAlchemist
sem34090
I see... With regards the scrapped terriers, the photos were taken in the sidings of the scrap merchants who disposed of them and the dates tie up with their scrapping dates.

Either way, seeing steam locomotives in such a state is truly distressing.
