NoelG
Before today I never knew CIE operated 2 axle timber wagons (four wheel). By chance I spotted a rake of them on page 47 of "Rails Through The West" depicting a train of 23 four wheel timber wagons departing Galway behind 084 in 1999. They might make an interesting model for some due to their shorter length on typical layout curves. If anybody has any more info or photos, especially the length and wheelbase I'd be very appreciative. @boskonay posted this 3D link over on IRM forum: https://www.shapeways.com/product/MAE7YYF3J/cie-2-axle-timber-wagon-oo-scale?optionId=534472&li=marketplace And @irishswissernie posted these three photos: https://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/5768509244/in/album-72157626825629406/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/15390361633/in/album-72157626825629406/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/irishswissernie/5883304063/in/album-72157627074623032/ Edited April 10, 2018 by NoelG
RMweb Premium Nile Posted April 10, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 10, 2018 Thanks for those links, the shorties seem to have been a bit camera shy. I wondered if one could be bashed from a Cambrian OTA?
NoelG
This was the fab photo from page 47 of 'Rails Though The West' that alerted me to these two axle timber wagons. A long rake of these might look better than fewer long 62ft wagons overhanging curves on some layouts. They don't look too difficult to scratch build in plastic, and might fit on top of a Dapol RTR chassis body which costs £6ea inc wheels and couplings. Will investigate same over the next few months. They look fab running in railers youtube clip. Thanks to JB for photo permission - © Jonathan Beaumont and Barry Carse Interesting Youtube clip below of 2 axle timber wagons posted earlier above by railer over on IRM forum. RMweb Premium Nile Posted April 12, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 12, 2018 (edited) After some digging around on IRM forum I think I've worked it out. The chassis is a 22'6" flat wagon, with 14' wb, from the third batch of flat wagons built in 1973. The log carrying cradle is about 24' long and sits on top of the flat wagon. The cradles were later cut in two and placed on the ends of 62' wagons. Edited April 12, 2018 by Nile
