Hornby announcement 8th May

Fella - Hornby is severely biased to steam locos and most releases are just rehashes of Lima models - anything they do do well they dont release many of them - for example Class 31s in Blue, Class 56s in Blue - now in not a massive BR blue modeller but if they had a brain - they wouldn't be in the state they are now .......

Damnit. If only they’d asked you to give them management consultancy they’d probably be bigger than Apple by now.

They did though.

Stewart

So they did, but the decisive factor for those trying to make a living for model railways is what will produce the best return from the resources at their disposal.

They will spot, sooner than us, when the prototypes and liveries that appeal to the widest market date from later than 1968 but, for now, the two decades from nationalisation to the end of BR steam remain commercially dominant.

There is a great appeal in the sheer variety of being able to run steam-outline models alongside newer traction, pre-nationalisation coaches with BR Mk1 and Mk2 stock and all the other aspects of the railway scene that were crossing from old to new at the time, in surroundings that had changed very little, in many areas, since the Grouping..

In truth, all eras of our railway history were and are "transition eras" but I think, the popularity of the period that is usually so tagged will continue long after those of us with a personal attachment to it cease to be active in the hobby for whatever reason.

Commercially, why would "the trade" not make steam locos and diesels that will both sell to the same people. Simple.

You are all wrong.

It'll be a W1 4-6-2-2 in Crimson lake with a copper capped chimney and Southern in sunshine lettering on the tender.

It will also feature a diesel booster and a pantograph.

Nice one Keith, but not quite right. The tender coal space has been removed, and seats added. After all... "My dad drove the Flying Scotsman".

The other mod is to put a 'Nellie' in the tender. This should allow Mallard to finally break the 126mph, at long last.

A 6-wheel Peckett is still on the radar. It will probably be the older classes, to utilise a common tooling base.

However, only about 11 hours to go now.

Wibble Wibble!

Ah. That will by why they have invested a not insignificant amount on the Hitachi IET then

Hmm. Probably reading too much into random pictures.

But a Kent Castle has appeared on Paul Isles Twitter feed. Aren't they called Martello Towers?

Isn't Martello a Terrier......

Jason

Not a Martello Tower Jason, that's Deal Castle. One of Henry VIII's projects to help keep the bad guys out of blighty.

So it'll be a KING then......

Hornby think the railways finished in 1968 .......

That's OK ...............................

4-COR - 1935, 4-SUB - 1947, 4-EPB - 1951, Early 4-CIG - 1964  but it won't be any of them ..............

I may have worked it out; 29 multiplied by 4 (as in 4mm scale) is......116 ! Finally, a top quality DMU; Thank you Hornby !!

Due to an out-by-one error, Hornby will probably announce a reissue of the Lima 117.....

Never mind, only another 85 minutes to go!
