dasatcopthorne
Hi Guys. As per the title, I'd like to fit a micro motor to drive the fan on a Hornby Class 50 using a output from a V4 Loksound chip. Has anyone tried it please? If so what did you use please? Regards Dave
Phil S
Not actually done it as yet - but years ago I did buy a batch of tiny motors intended for phones (vibration if they have an off-centre weight attached) - working on about 3V - worth looking to see if they are still available. - several designs now appear to be available on ebay. the flat 'coin' type might be an interesting alternative to the traditional cylinders I bought. RMweb Gold pheaton Posted April 25, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 25, 2018 (edited) I did look at fitting a miniature RC helicopter motor about 5mm in diameter and about 15mm in length but i could never get a perfectly central hole to mount the shaft for the fan but the motor looked a good size, you can get them off ebay Look for the tail motor for a syma RC helicopter Edited April 25, 2018 by pheaton
RMweb Premium richierich Posted October 17, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 17, 2019 Nigel Burkin in one of his books shows how to do this on the Class 56. So imagine the same methodology applies.
RobjUK
I'm using this style in my 7mm deltic: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gdstime-2507-25mm-25x25x7mm-Micro-Cooling-Fan-DC-5V-PC-Computer-Laptop-Cooler/222323580268 The fan outer body can be removed to leave the blades and motor. Do you have enough space to remove the blades as well, and add a scale fan on top, with eg. motor hub painted matt black or spaced down slightly? Or, something like this - a miniature motor and configurable gearbox: https://www.sol-expert-group.de/1zu87modellbau/Motor-und-Getriebe/Getriebebausaetze/Universalgetriebebausatz-G243-mit-Motor::1096.html Or any other miniature gearbox they sell? https://www.sol-expert-group.de/1zu87modellbau/Motor-und-Getriebe/Getriebebausaetze:::48_66_68.html I've not used that first one, but to put the sizes in proportion, this is the top left type from the second link: [Edit - just realised that plastic kit one is the odd one out on that page, it's massive compared to the others..] Edited October 17, 2019 by RobjUK
dasatcopthorne
I'm only interested in the motor part of the job. The Loco already has the spinning fan. Thanks. Dave
RobjUK
Hi Dave, that same place does miniature motors down to 4mm diameter, or a motor plus worm gear kit for building in to other things. eg. https://www.sol-expert-group.de/1zu87modellbau/Motor-und-Getriebe/Motoren:::48_66_67.html https://www.sol-expert-group.de/1zu87modellbau/Motor-und-Getriebe/Getriebebausaetze/Universalantrieb-fuer-Mikromodelle-1-20-bzw-1-30-Untersetzung::1103.html
