Hope everyone has a good show.

Easter is a late one and its warm so I hope that people attend the show and enjoy it.

It was warm queuing this morning in the sun but hey that’s not a grumble it’s usually freezing or raining or both. Good varied show as usual, some great inspiration for young and old alike. Mr Cook would have approved I think!

It must be roasting for the operators in some spots. Where there is all that glass in the stand it'll be like a greenhouse! I remember it being warm when I did it a few years ago and that wasn't a particularly hot weekend, certainly not compared to this year.

Hope all visitors and operators have enjoyed day two.

Very nice indeed, but what is it? I'm assuming 4mm, but I'm not familiar enough with the layouts on the list to pick out which one it is...

It gets very hot in places, especially on the 2nd mezzanine, thankfully we're on the ground floor in the shade.

Heat wasn't too bad on Black Lion Crossing this morning....nice and bright though!

Did I see Boris at Rosedale Depots controls around lunchtime?

Both he and the layout seemed to be behaving themselves though!

Yes, that will have been Boris.

It was indeed hot on the 2nd Mezzanine, the expanse of glazing and the rising hot air from the lower floors being the biggest problem. The good weather seemed to have kept the families away, as there were fewer small people about than I recall from previous shows.

York is a unique show in my experience of working on one Small Supplier's stand. Nowhere else do you get "assailed" with peoples reminiscences of their childhood railway experiences for five to ten minutes before they wander off to bore someone else. There also seems to be no shortage of people with "odd" enquiries. We quake with trepidation when someone approaches with a small scruffy box, which they then open and ask "have you got a XXX for this?", usually presenting a thirty or more year old, usually tatty,  model of unknown parentage that has lost some part (a chimney, one wheel, a buffer or w.h.y). It then takes several minutes to explain we don't know exactly what it is, where they might be able to find someone who does, etc. while they seem incapable of realising we can't  help.

I had very little time to look around but in a short shopping trip around the show spotted Fencehouses, Arun Quay, Black Lion Crossing, Heybridge Wharf, Halifax King Cross and Rosedale East, all of which I would have like to have spent more time at. There may have been others too (I would like to have had a look at Edford), but my time was very limited.

Lost property as yet unclaimed includes a bus pass, driving licence and a key set that looks important. If you think they may be yours PM me the details

Including mine on this occasion - and I found the subsequent conversation highly enlightening. Thank you Jol for the insight.

Just back from an excellent day out at York, good to see the car park was very full this morning, I hope they were all visitors to the show.

Absolutely top notch selection of layouts and trusted suppliers there and I could have stayed longer were it not for the fact I had to be home by a certain time.

Came away with some paint, transfers and a giant illuminated magnifying thing so I can see what I'm doing.  Never thought that I would be rummaging round smaller suppliers looking for Maunsell period SR decals.

A big well done to the organisers

Hopefully I won't make the mistake of bumping into you and 'boring' you to death. I'd rather take my business elsewhere than be met with an attitude like that. What's the point of helping out on someone's stand just to be annoyed with potential customers?

I have to say I have never found the chaps on the LRM stand to be anything else but very helpful. If they are not pressed for time by waiting customers they have a pleasant chat and many nuggets of interesting information comes to light. I think the point was if they can’t help the enquiring party doesn’t let it go.

I think the point was that they did not buy anything as either they were there to natter or ask for something which they could not supply. Either way the punter is not going to spend anything so they are not 'potential customers'.  It is a bit different if, when buying something, you mention something which is relavent, short and amusing; or if you mention that it would be nice if X could be considered in the future. I spent 30 years ocasionally asking for an N7; it would have been nice if Oxford it had been done in N.

Good old run down and up the ECML for me tomorrow and then a bus to and from. Only have 3 hours on site at most so I shall not bother anyone with any weird questions and will probably only purchase books. Looks like the weather will again be kind to pedestrians (walk to from bus stop unless I CBA to get the 197 or whatever it is?).

I am looking forward to meeting a good pal during his lunch break and seeing some target layouts. If anyone recognises me then bad luck, however have good day and thanks for what looks like a good show.

Last time I came was with the late Geoff Brewin when I helped on his Comet Models Stand so I shall be having a little quiet contemplation to remember that and his friendship too.

Lost property as at end of day two - still the above. Everything else found/handed-in during today has been returned to the owners.

We will post the DL to the address shown. However, to speed up the process if you think it might be yours it can be collected tomorrow between 10:00 &16:30.  Same for the key and bus pass: these are more problematic to return as we have no contact details. They will be left with the Racecourse admin.

Well, you know my name and as I wear a name badge, you can easily avoid me.

Like quite a few who help the specialist traders, I don't get a wage.

Those who enjoy sharing their reminiscences at length rarely if ever buy anything. Traders are a captive audience who can't escape and are invariably too polite to put a blunt end to the "conversation". It is particularly annoying when another person, probably an existing or potential customer can't get to talk to you and sometimes gives up and walk away. I am always happy to talk to existing or potential customers, but having to listen to those who are neither but want to talk for the sake of it is not much fun. On Saturday I spent quite some time talking to potential customers, some of whom made a purchase, while others didn't but may well do so at another show or by mail order.

Judging by both your non de plumes, neither of you would be interested in what the trader I help sells anyway.
