michaelp
Hello All, I want to fit some thin Red and Black wire to some 3mm LEDs and some heatshrink to insulate the LEDs but I have no idea what size wire and heatshrink tubing I need. Any suggestions would be very helpful Thanks in advance Posted twice by mistake Edited May 14, 2018 by michaelp
Tricky Dicky
Heat shrink typically shrinks by a factor of 2:1 or 3:1. Find out what the outside diameter of the wire you intend to use and then select suitable heat shrink based on its shrinkage ratio. Alternatively, if you have the space use solderless LED connectors although they work out more espensive. https://www.rapidonline.com/truopto-c-911-2-54mm-led-holder-solderless-55-0167 Richard
RMweb Premium dhjgreen Posted May 15, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 15, 2018 Use the thinnest wire you can work with, think DCC decoder wire. The current is negligible through an LED.
Brian
As per my P.M. reply to this question that you sent to me..... I would use a flexible wire for the LEDs such as 7/0.2mm equipment/hook up wire. Sold in various insulation colours and often sold in 2, 5 or 10 Mtr coils. eBay is a good source, as too are some model shops, but they tend to be more expensive than eBay sellers. eBay examples... https://www.ebay.co....sacat=0&_sop=15 Heatshink I also get from eBay sellers. Unshrunk size is important to amount of shrinkage (often 2 to 1 or 3 to 1) as it determines the size needed for the wire and joint. There are some good buys of multi packs of various sizes and colours too. An example of multi pack... https://www.ebay.co....tsAAOSw7bdanR2G Edited May 15, 2018 by Brian
