Almost 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'..........a SNCF Fret working disturbs my (expensive !) early afternoon aperitif as it rolls through Villefranche on the Cote d'Azur last week. . When I went to the Cardiff Show in October Paul Rolley asked me if Danemouth would be ready for the Cardiff Small Show on 26th January even as a work in progress - for some reason I said yes! I may be totally hamfisted but I am a Grand Master at the art of prevarication. so much so that I found myself just before Christmas very little further forward and had to go like hell to have something that could be taken to a show. There were a couple of tasks beyond my meagre skills e.g. cutting the tracks across the baseboard joints - my two friends John and Paul came to my rescue again and helped out - without them I would have been in the effluent. So the three of us duly appeared yesterday with this (please excuse the quality of the pictures, I didn't take my Nikon to the show and used my ancient Windows mobile instead): As I said it was work in progress so what's left to be done: Correct some small problems identified yesterday Change the fiddle yard to a traverser, Change the existing Goods shed to the Oxford Rail version which matches the Station (when released) Add: Signalling both semaphore and ground signals, Yard crane, Water crane Loading gauge More people on station platform, Street lighting Crew & lamps to locos Paint the platform lamps Signage on platform & signal box Finish the backscene – clouds etc. Sort out coupling/uncoupling Weather passenger stock and vans & add tail lights I've been an operator several times over the past decade but as the main man I learned a lot yesterday including: Don't overdo the sundry bits and pieces eg spare mains cables, big tool box etc. limit the stock you take - I took far too many locos and coaches - I will be re-evaluating my stock shortly - in my naivety I bought far too much stock over the years and some is now obviously surplus. It was great to meet so many RMWeb friends yesterday and to chat, Once again my thanks to John and Paul and my son in law John who provided a transit van. Dave p.s. I will be getting a few more in the not too distant future. Glad you all like my efforts - I freely admit surprising myself I will restart work over the next day or two and aim to complete everything except weathering over the next couple of months. RMweb Gold The Johnster Posted January 28, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 28, 2019 Enjoyed it very much at the show on Saturday, Dave, and chatting to you and the other reprobates John and Paul, old partners in crime of mine (I can remember when they had hair, well, some hair anyway). I like the layout; it flows well and has a very natural look. Palm trees do indeed shout seaside, and cordylines on the platform mean Cornwall in my book! This is a layout with a lot of potential that has been well thought out before being equally well made; I look forward to seeing whatever progress you've made by the 'big' Cardiff show! 1 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

On the layout itself all that remains to be done is install the signals. So this is how things currently look: The autocoach propelled by 6412 passes the signal box and arrives in the bay Two non corridor coaches arrive behind 6658 Both trains depart to be replaced by a Class 121 and a Class 22 with coaches detached from an express I decided to stay with tension lock coupling and as the layout will be infrequently exhibited decided not to install uncoupling ramps. Instead I got these from Lanarkshire Models Given my legendary ham fistedness I am pleased with the result, which without the encouragement and help with the tricky bit from my friends John and Paul would never have happened. I know it was a bit tricky... Hello Phil, The fiddleyard remains as it was in earlier posts. I've got so used to it that I probably shan't bother switching to a traverser. John, I remember Barry Island and Tenby as a boy in the late fifties and the carparks always seemed that full to me.
