Made a start on some diesel fuel storage tanks using the Knightwing kit.

I made a base and bund wall enclosure using 2mm thick card stock.

Next will be a brickwork lining to the bund wall to give it an additional scale foot in height.

I calculated the bund volume (and hence the bund wall height required) basing it on the OD and length of both tanks with an extra for 1/3 of each tank being within the “bunded” space.

Cheers

Brick panels were cut from Scalescenes bricks that had been printed and glued to 2mm card stock.  I split the longitudinal walls into three panels to allow for expansion joints.

Temporary switches added for the main storage sidings.

Each road is switchable, therefore the existing cabling was extended into the (old port) box. Illuminated switches are an aid.

Two bridges (due to length of the roads) have switchable power supplies which are joined together on the bridge with the blue tape. Not very pretty, but hidden by the rather smart maroon cover made by Darius.

Surprisingly quick & simple. Quite a lot of soldering (gradually getting better).

Aim is for a professional version of the switch box in the future.

Oh, and a new sign.

Finally a more recent run with a camera wagon.  The loco pushing is a Dapol Class 29 with sound.  Having the microphone so close to the loco makes for painful hearing so viewing at low volume is recommended.

Cheers

Darius

PS the lower level storage sidings are now a lot tidier than as shown in the earlier videos...probably.

Darius,

May I ask what 'little' camera you are using to capture the 'on track' videos?

Hi Ian,

I used this wireless mini camera that I obtained from Amazon - costs about £27 including delivery.

It sends a live video stream to an app on your smartphone or tablet which you can record.

I adapted an old Dapol wagon chassis to hold the camera.

Cheers

Darius,

Thanks for the info. I bought a 'cheap' one about a year ago along a similar vein from TheBay for ~£6, but the quality isn't a patch on yours. But, there again, I shouldn't have expected much for the price! I've been looking for a 'better' one, and yours ticks all the boxes.

We had a track painting session today using an airbrush and suitably thinned Phoenix track colour enamel.

After cleaning the rail tops we tested the electrics - all working fine.

Ballasting tomorrow...

Darius,

I like the idea of weathering the 'track' before ballasting, and was planning the same route. Do you have any concrete sleepered track, and if so what did that come out like after the weathering?

Hi Ian,

All of the track on the scenic section is/will be Peco bullhead wooden sleepered track so alas no concrete sleepered track I am afraid.

Cheers

Scalescenes tunnel portal constructed. This will go at the base of the ramp down to the helix and will form the entry to the helix.
