The loco ran back to Norwich after this move. Unit hasn't commenced commissioning runs yet, so until then it will be dragged. Until the 'seal' has been officially removed, it won't be driven kind of situation. Cheers 1
RMweb Gold ruggedpeak Posted November 29, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 29, 2020 (edited) Photos on the Sudbury branch late in the day, atmospheric if nothing else! It was much darker in reality than the pics suggest so shutter speed was very slow. 2T79 1542 Sudbury to Marks Tey between Chappel and Marks Tey. Far moe reliable, 755s are now cleared for passenger use to Liverpool Street and cleared for (passenger use) multiple working. The latter means the 47/37 thunderbird which was stabled at Manningtree has been stood down and a unit is stabled at Ipswich for recoveries. The latest software update seems to have resolved their issues, they still fail occasionally but only as much as any train. Satan's Goldfish
Watching various YouTube videos of Ipswich station; 755s seem to stop in the bay platform before reaching the platform canopy, but old units (156 etc) would run all the way to the buffers alongside the canopy. What's the reason for this?

stewartingram
Cambridge North (new station) is just the opposite. Terminating emus enter the bay platform, go beyond the building/canopy right to the buffer stop, and let the passengers out to walk on the wild side! RMweb Gold beast66606 Posted February 9, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 9, 2021 While we have snow 745s are not permitted to run due to ice build up which may detach and hit someone, the 755s are substituting and are running a Norwich/Colchester service instead of London Liverpool Street - the shorter units don't suffer from the ice build up issue. 2

It’s a bit extraordinary that a Swiss train should suffer problems with snow and ice. Paul

caradoc
What is it about the 745s that makes them particularly dangerous ? Ice falling from passing trains is not a new thing, I recall it being a concern for PW staff sent to clear points on the WCML 20 years ago ! 1
RMweb Premium ColinK Posted February 10, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 10, 2021 I was following a lorry when chunks of ice came off its roof on a roundabout, something which is fairly common. Using the same logic all HGVs should be banned. 1

RMweb Premium 47137 Posted April 29, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 29, 2021 We went to Sudbury last Tuesday, this was the 11:01 departure from Marks Tey. My first trip on a train this year, and I managed only one trip last year! I thoroughly enjoyed the journey. I know the Sudbury branch is limited to 50mph, but I thought the ride was superb. The seating seemed very good too - it seems to suit people of different sizes, at least from 5'2" to 5'11". Some photos from the trip, on 27 April 2021. - Richard.
Suzie
Interesting weathering on the motor unit, presumably because it is only half filled with engines being a 3-car.
