JeffP
Had the same problem with my U3. Luckily I found an electric motor specialist not far from home who took the job on. They stripped and cleaned the thing out for £20. It was the smallest motor that they'd seen, they usually deal with larger jobs for woodworking equipment. So, try googling for motor repairers in your area, you might get lucky. Same thing as I did when my EMCO Compact 5 motor wouldn't play. Local guy was amused at the size of the motor, but they did a rewind for £25. Just DON'T do what I did and allow the motor start capacitor to earth through your arm when removing the motor. Second worst electric shock I've ever had.....

Second worst electric shock I've ever had..... means short the capacitor before disconnecting it... capacitive charging may be nasty. I have my experience with a short piece of 10 kV cable. (a medium voltage cable is a capacitor - 2 electrodes - a very good dielectric in between.) I did sit on my 3 letters after touching it with a spanner. I did earth it before - but on paper lead the charge comes back if you do not earth it long enough... VA
