I have fitted two Quad Tower Yard Lights to Diesel Depot. A technician with a good head for heights is repairing one of them!

Hi Pete, I got these from a company called Model Rail Baseboards (www.modelrailbaseboards.com) at a show in Dublin some years ago (€60 each). The Quad Tower Yard Lights each have 4 LEDs which give a good spread of light and give a vertical perspective to a compact flat horizontal layout. They are delicate units and are transported separately in cardboard tubes provided. I have set up apertures through metal washers in the layout through which the plug is passed and connected to a socket directly to the DCC busbar. Cleverly, they are designed with a magnet fitted which holds them in place on the metal washer! This also means that they are not damaged if brushed against during running or exhibitions. Gerry

A fantastic diesel depot layout, the modelling within the layout is brilliant with attention to detail. Great pictures, thanks for sharing such a wonderful layout.

Thanks Kevin. This is my 6th layout (three OO/DCC and three N/DC) in my portfolio and all in use on the exhibition circuit.  Four of these have scenic areas designed within the 4.5 foot footprint allowing them to be displayed on a shelf yet be transported in a normal car to exhibitions. This is a response to the oft-heard "I don't have room for a model railway" comment! I have plans also for a portable O/DCC gauge layout. Happy modelling, Gerry

The layout is looking brilliant! Good idea with the mirrors. it really gives the impression that the railway line continues beyond the horizon!

Thanks James. DD is booked to make it's exhibition debut at Enniskillen in Northern Ireland in September at the Erne MRC Exhibition there. Gerry

Diesel Depot is in preparation for its next public exhibition at Wexford MRC's Open Day on 20th October 2019. This time locos in the black/tan/white livery (and one Supertrain livery) will be on display including CIE Classes B121, B141, B181, A and C. The prototypes date from the late 1960s onwards.

Diesel Depot is remotely controlled by the Roco/Fleischmann Z21 DCC system via a tablet allowing locos to be controlled on one half of the screen and points on the other. This allows the layout to be controlled from the front enabling better interaction with visitors at exhibitions! The locos on the roster are recognised by their photos and their functions by icons so you don't need to memorise or list the addresses or function numbers for each loco.
