The IET would have been 802001 on driver training runs, the short HST set would be 43187 (Kernow end) and 43194 (London end), cant help with the other HST though.

Three more oldies taken on Tyneside...

For a few months at the start of 1983 both Redheugh Bridges stood side by side over the Tyne - the old one (which I'm standing on for this shot) and the modern replacement one in the background. By the summer of 1984 the old one was demolished and this viewpoint was unrepeatable.

A northbound HST crosses the Tyne into Newcastle in 1983

Taken when Carlisle diversions were in force when the ECML was out of action between Newcastle and Edinburgh

A sorry-looking 43108 at the rear of a northbound train makes an interesting contrast with 55684 at Newcastle in July 1991

I asked IKB if it was OK to take his photo.

"On two conditions dear boy. Firstly there mustn't be one of those dreadful tramcar Class 800s behind me and second,

that the HST power car must be in GWR livery."

I was in luck.....

One of the first HSTs to call at Leicester in service, a NE/SW (aka cross country) service, one of those which from the May 1982 timetable was timetabled to be diverted on Sundays between Birmingham and Derby via Nuneaton and Leicester. 23rd or 30th May 1982:

A slightly smoky one at Severn Tunnel Junction, early-mid 1980s (sorry, lost notes):

December 1982, Wigston South Junction (S of Leicester).

An HST on a London service, accelerating away from Leicester. But look over on the left, a 45 with Mk3s, on a diverted WCML service. There had been a derailment at Leighton Buzzard of a London-Glasgow overnight train, and services were being diverted between Nuneaton and St Pancras. I didn't see any dragged electric locos, just a series of 47s and 45s on sets of WCML coaches.
